New Brabus styled special edition V6 Vito

BTW, the waiting list for a Ford Transit from the factory is currently at 9 months!
Does anyone know how does this latest Transit compares to the Sprinter?

When I changed from the Transit to a Sprinter it was a breath of fresh air, the old style Transit was a clonking, smelly, agricultural type diesel whereas our 5 cylinder 212 Sprinter was a flying machine. Has the new Transit thrown down the gauntlet?

What, like this?

Exactly like that. When are they going to produce one for the UK? They have been making them in South Africa and Indonesia for some time. I suppose a right hand drive model is out of the question?

?? Isn't South Africa one of many countries that drive on the correct side of the road?

True,
but don't forget the biggest importer of the E-class was never offered the E320CD! estate (USA) and Mercedes-Benz of South Africa offer the S-class with body armour as a factory option

No C, E or S-class 4Matic though

I snapped that one in Germany a couple of weeks ago.

I'm buying a Vito at the moment (long story!), the first range brochure I got featured the 4x4 version ... but it's been erased from the current one. I guess M-B decided it wasn't going to sell well enough in the UK to make it worth bringing in, this is supposedly the story with the 4Matic estates etc. If you're interested then an email to M-B customer care would probably confirm/deny this.

VW have persevered with a 4WD T5 Transporter, but the big price premium and loss of interior space (you lose the under-slung spare wheel carrier due to the rear diff.) make it a very rare beast over here.

I currently have a 4WD VW Sharan - that model was withdrawn due to lack of demand.

PS if you can live with LHD there's nothing to stop you buying a Vito 4x4 in Germany and registering it in the UK.

Agreed but it is not advertised on Mercedes-Benz UK (or it never used to be) Whereas in South Africa it is just another bog standard model in the S-class line up.

The 4x4 issue is a pain but directors are paid to make decisions and you will never please all of the people all of the time. :)

S-class 420CDI 4Matic estate would be my ultimate vehicle of choice. :)

That would be quite a car!
But I have found that:
The 420CDI is heavier and more thirsty than the V6 which IMO is quick enough.
4 wheel drive always knocks 5mpg off your fuel consumption and I have yet to get stuck anywhere.
Estates are just a tad noiser than saloons, so if you can persude your wife into the E estate with room for the 'barkers'....

I'm lucky enough to have my perfect car of choice:D

Barker! barker! :D:D We have a very nice estate and our pooch loves it. Sheds load of room and he sprawls in the back dreaming of being Baron von Alsaz :) and he does NOT bark. :p :)

Hi Fuzzer,
It looks like the UK is slowly offering these things, well done. I have just checked the South African site and it has now changed from when I last looked. The S-class was offered as a standard model with body armour, the price was published and varied according to the different standard of armour. The UK site offers a premium rate number to discuss requirements :D

Good spotting
John
