New c63

Maybe it should be badged C20E

its not a 6.3 litre, its a 2.0 litre with electric help.

or maybe C680e? (680hp electric)
That would make sense if current and recent AMG model designations were based upon actual displacement, but they’re not and haven’t been for years.

The last model which did was possibly the C 32 and SLK 32 which was launched more than 20 years ago, and I can’t think of a more recent example.

35, 43, 45, 53, 55, 63 and 65 just denote the relative position in the range hierarchy, and none of them actually reflect the engine capacity in decilitres.

The numbers are supposed to hint that the engine fitted produces roughly the power as a naturally engine of that capacity. So for example the turbo 3 litre engine in the C43 produces roughly what a good performing 4.3 litre motor NA engine would.
And then of course there is marketing....!

I think its more like 10 years, prior to that Mercedes/AMG engine size was relatively close to the badging/
Yes the m113 is technically a 5.4 not 5.5 and the m156 is a 6.2 not 6.3...but very close nonetheless

Unless you’re obsessed with top trumps performance, I really don’t get the appeal. Personally, if they had gone full EV it would have been more appealing.

I’ll appreciate my V8 even more now.

I don’t think any of us can pass judgement til we drive one. But with the proviso that the past does not predict the future, I have not driven any four cylinder hybrid I have loved, yet.

Hybrids are also different to pure electric cars. I guess I’m in a minority but I quite like a Tesla Model S Plaid, for example. I can’t help not being excited about this hybrid C63, but let’s see and I hope I’m wrong, because without new cars to aspire to, life would be a sadder thing.

As has been pointed out to me by a BMW owner, its actually 6 divided by 3 now
It's missing a " / " on the boot
(6/3)

But then I drive an E400 that isn't
He drives a 330i that is

I do smile when you get all the V8 comments about cubes and displacement. Those numbers are good whatever and however its produced. Personally its the same as the new M3 touring, fantastic car but way too expensive. Would love one but won't spend that much on it as the depreciation will be savage

Give it a couple of years and bmw will be knocking out way too many and pre reg ones will be around £50000 or less

Looks like it will be quick, quite heavy though

I wonder if it did a few drags back to back would it get slower..

When did all these cars get so expensive, I remember when Porsche turbo S was just over 100k now they close to the 200k mark with some extras.

M3’s for 75k as standard chuck some extras on that will be close to 90k madness..

At this rate after this C63 I will have to jump into the new Toyota GR Corolla

Yes apparently it weighs more than 2.1 tonnes. But as someone said, being heavy didn't stop the AMG GTS 4 door being an absolute hoot..although it does have a V8!

One thing I am interested to see is what they do about the steering. At middling speeds (that we are forced to drive most of the time) the steering is the worst aspect of the W205 and the biggest come down from the 204 C63. The 204 had the best steering I have ever experienced in a saloon car. The 205 steering is fine when it's pushed, communication and sharpness. But at normal speeds it is turgid. EVO noticed this and commented on "light" steering.

It put me off the 205 when I first drove it in 2016, and again all the times since, and annoys me about my car now. On a blast across Europe in summer it wasn't an issue, in fact it was brilliant as I was driving it like it's supposed to be. But in everyday motorway and A road traffic, it makes the car feel less than sharp. M3 and RS4 better in this respect.

Wonder if the new one will address this. I suspect maybe not if the developers only drove it at high speed in the Black Forest or Nurburgring. 205 steering is great for that too. It's the high traffic 75 mph autobahn commute between Stuttgart and Frankfurt they needed to develop it on.

Oh and add the 9 speed box changing into 9th when you're trailing a Transit van at 67 mph for miles, and it's less than magnificent on such drives. The hybrid will be better at that, too, with the electric backup.

car prices have gone through the roof. at first it was with new emissions and manufacturers having to pay penalties if car was polluting more than a certain amount(I might have gotten the order of events wrong). now they realised that the can get away with charging more, producing less and still bringing in bigger profits. new m240i is around 55-60k. no way it's worth that price. same goes for m3/c63. I guess I am in the same boat as you are and will need to hold out for as long as I can with this c63. otherwise buying a prius and will blend in with all uber drivers in london.

Just saw this , unsure if posted anywhere else.. as an aside the C43 estate in the vid used to be mine

Worst amg ever. It’s awful. Downsize the engine and end up with a longer heavier car.

I can only imagine how much the cooling systems will cost to maintain in the future, along with the motor, battery pack, engine and gearbox.

Every rival is substantially better. It’s predecessor is infinitely better.

With allegedly impending true performance car nemesis, how does Mercedes or anybody else market their own particular hairy chested AMG model. With a long line of closet tree huggers in power, anything now manufactured that even mildly takes a breath of air to produce horse power is to be roundly frowned on. It’s all over. 🤔🤣
