I guess this years mot next week they will say need replacing?
Just looking for recommendations on a make that don’t cost the earth.
Cheers 👍

Until you measure the disc thickness and compare it to new you have no idea how much wear there is. MOT inspectors often make such vague comments.

Most brake discs have the minimum thickness marked on them so you can estimate the wear yourself Try Mercedes for a quote, you may be surprised. MB Newcastle have an eBay shop where you can ask /buy when needed. 👍

I had the same advisory at an MOT but when I measured them with a digital caliper they really were close to the limit so couldn't complain.

I bought Bosch discs from Autodoc thinking a decent brand and the price was surprisingly reasonable at £70 pair and not that much more than the really cheap stuff like Ridex. When they arrived I was a bit put out that they turned out to be made in China but performance wise I can't tell the difference from the original MB discs once the coasting wore off. I suppose that was a negative in that the coating was silver paint which took some wearing off.

Not sure about the 'Silver paint' thing , the last discs I replaced with the silver/grey coating saw the coating gone within a few miles of driving.

But If you are happy with how your new brakes turned out , fair enough 👍

There's no point replacing discs without replacing pads too. Last year I bought Brembo front discs and pads from https://www.buycarparts.co.uk at a good price. Just don't be fooled by their URL, they're a German company but still deliver reasonably quickly.

Brembo for me , also the coating is meant to wear off the parts in contact with the pads , leaving the outer edge and the hub contact section , with a level of rust protection. 👍

That's autodoc in disguise 🥸.

Indeed it is. I happened to buy from them under what's likely to be one of several alternative names. Wasn't a problem for me.
