Hi all,
I've just joined the ranks of Mercedes ownership as of last night when I drove 190 miles to buy my E300 Avantgarde estate :) It's a '98 R reg with 135k & full MB service history. I was pointed towards this forum from some friends over on the vegetableoildiesel forum as I've been running my Ford Scorpio on waste veg oil for the last 18 months but fancied something a bit nicer so it had to be the Merc :D I'll be doing the same with the Merc very soon so I can enjoy luxury motoring for pennies once again!
My other passions include classic cars (currently a 1967 Singer Chamois) and a Kawasaki GPZ900r for the two wheeled thrills.
No doubt I'll have a couple of typical newbie questions in due course but I'll try and do a bit of reading on here first!

Kind regards, Jim

Welcome Jim - Share some pics of your cars in the Gallery :)

Thanks for the speedy welcome already guys :thumb: I'll try and get the camera out and take some pictures asap, I've barely seen it in daylight never mind take any pics!!
Certainly looking forward to Merc ownership, the drive home was fantastic and it certainly doesn't look it's age. The neighbours will be thinking I've robbed a bank or something.....:D

Cheers Jim

Hey from the even better side of the water!:rolleyes::DGreat choice on the Merc, but even better with the Chamois, and the GeePeeZed:thumb:, quite fancy one of those myself!

Thanks for all the welcomes guys, nice to see so many Fifers here too, we know which is really the good side of the water, don't we? ;)
SilverSaloon, I sent you a u2u a few weeks back on vegatable oildiesel forum but you haven't been back on.
Thanks for the links re running on veg I'll probably be in touch soon for some advice and Olivier has also been very kind already, he even gave me a wee shot of his car which helped make my mind up that I definitely wanted an E class.

I don't think I'll manage the meet this Sunday but I'd love to come along to one soon.
Tiff, the GPZ is great fun, sadly the Imp is off the road just now as the "quick tidy up" I started a year past June is still on going! I restored it quicker first time around 10 years ago :wallbash:

Cheers Jim

Hi Jim - i've replied to your PM on the veg forum - i havnt logged on there in a while so missed it.

Thanks Derek, just been over to the Veg forum & got your reply. I've been offline for a few days as I've just been too busy to get near the computer! I've got a busy week this week too but it would be good to meet up for a natter, see your motors & get some advice on changing the seals etc sometime soon.
I want to get back on WVO asap as it almost broke my heart putting £40 worth of diesel in last night ;) First off, I want to fit my heat exchanger as I found this really helped in my Scorpio and it looks like I might have a dead glow plug as the glow plug light comes back on for a minute after starting. Olivier has very kindly diagnosed this as he had similar problems and has warned about the perils of fitting anything other than the Beru. I'll also do as you both advise and have a look at the tank strainer as well
On the plus side, I've been thoroughly enjoying driving the Merc, I love the smoothness and it can certainly nip along for a diesel :D

Cheers Jim
