Hello all ,

my name is Richard and I’m from Suffolk

my trusty 406 estate is coming to the end of its days so I’m looking for a new dog carrier .

I’m a mechanic of 25 years and I’ve worked on most makes of cars over the years and I’ve grown up around mercs all my life.

To save yourself from a stream of irrelevant suggestions, do you have any prejudices about mileage and fuel are you thinking of?

The good news: there are quite a few good family cars out there are crazy low prices for anyone who knows which end of a spanner to use. The trick is to buy on condition, not age or even mileage.

I’d prefer either a 270/320 cdi as we travel around the country for holidays and we have some good friends that have just moved to Cornwall, the last v8 I took down there cost me over £600 in fuel for the week hahahah

not too fussed on mileage along as it can be proven that it’s been looked after and I’m able to fix anything mechanical on them.

I don’t do rotten or badly painted and I don’t do black cars

I’ve purchased a e280 cdi in silver today from a very nice dealer in Peterborough.

I got fed up with wasting my time looking a ropey examples so I upped my budget and bought a low mileage , 95k full mb/ mb specialist history and in very good condition. Couldn’t be happier

Sensible; hopefully it'll pay dividends in fuss free morning.

I should add, as a word of caution, that my E500 required an almost complete overhaul of components from 100k. However, as I'm now on 165k, there is serious mileage from that point onwards.
