I recently took ownership of a c250d coupe. So far so good albeit the start stop function isn’t working, it’s been yellow since I got it. It’s done some really good runs (couple of hours each way), played about with the the settings, no aircon on, heated seats etc but still yellow and doesn’t work. Read it could be battery related. Thing is I don’t really care for the start stop anyway so could live without it, but does this mean the main car battery is coming to an end or is the SS related to a different battery? Worried about a significant potential cost here…

Welcome.

1. The main starter battery will continue to work fine for everything other than Start/Stop, long after it is no longer good enough for Start/Stop.

2. The car will have a second battery, called the auxiliary battery. On the W204 (up to 2015) it will be a Lead-acid battery the size of a motorcycle battery. On the W205 (2015 onwards) it will be a capacitor.

3. An issue with either battery can cause Start/Stop to stop working. However, as said, the car will most likely be fine even if the battery is no longer good enough for Start/Stop.

4. If you bought the car from a trader (not in a private sale), then you have statutory warranty and the trader should sort out the issue at their cost.

Thanks so much, really appreciate the response!
