New purchase dilemma!

Whilst it's not costing you money give them a second chance it does look a lovely car and colour 🙂

Hi folks,

In a bit of a pickle here. Recently bought an approved used 2018 E400d coupe from a Mercedes dealership on the 17th of June. Thought it was a bargain as it was around 22.4K miles.

However, on the same day that I picked it up, I experienced severe loss of power to the engine- struggled to get past 60mph.

I gave the car back to the Mercedes dealership to investigate and repair the issue on the 19th of June. On the same day (19th June) They told me that it was a faulty sensor (didn’t specify which sensor) and that they had resolved the issue. Also bear in mind, I received no documentation listing out what work had been carried out to remediate the issue.

They kept the car for a further 24 hours just to check and then they returned the car to the body shop who were addressing some cosmetic wear and tear on the leather seats.

I finally got the vehicle back on the 1st of July and it drove fine from the dealership in London back to Bedfordshire. Unfortunately however, on the 2nd of June on a motorway journey to the Midlands, the acceleration/lack of power issue reappeared again!

Should I cut my losses and return the vehicle? Or should I give them yet another chance to repair it? There aren’t many E400ds around in the UK at the moment- especially not with this type of spec and low mileage.

Thanks for your input guys, some great insight. Update wise, I decided to give Mercedes another chance. So far, they’ve reported a boost sensor needs replacing. Fingers crossed the issue can be resolved for good this time!

So another update guys, the boost sensor has been replaced and they've also ran a quick systems diagnostics which seems to show that everything is in the clear. Here's to hoping!

Unfortunately, the issue has resurfaced AGAIN! Car went back into limp mode on Saturday 22 July. Service from Croydon Mercedes has been terrible from the 1st day I bought this vehicle. Been a week since this issue has reoccurred for the 3rd time in only 1 month of ownership, yet Croydon management have not reached out.

The car was towed on Sunday 23rd July to Milton Keynes Mercedes as breakdown said it was closer. Interestingly, they have found that the limp mode issue has been caused from a leak in the water pump. How have Croydon missed this twice?!

Escalated this to Mercedes head office, let’s see what they say.

Sorry to hear this.

As per my previous post, as long as the faults are not related to the AdBlue system, they should be fixable. AdBlue is a different story.... But I agree that this is very poor service fron the supplying dealer.

I would ask them to have a look at the oil pump, as I have said previously it has been a known issue with regards to the 400d.
