Apparently it does the following:-

The Remote Parking Pilot provides a simple means of steering your vehicle from outside with your smartphone. How it works: You scan the parking space as you drive by, then get out of the vehicle and steer it into the space from outside. "Key parking" and the Remote Parking Pilot make child's play of any parking space, however tight. The optional items 360-degree camera, automatic transmission and KEYLESS-GO are required for this service. Download the corresponding app from your App Store and activate the service via the Mercedes me portal.

Hmm, not sure I will be trying that out in the High Street anytime soon!

Cheers

Gerry

So new I can't get on it now. I think everyone is having a play with it!

Can't log in either :( I think the changes go live towards the end of March though from how the email I've received was worded, plus a lot of the new features are likely to be new E-Class specific I'm guessing?

Car-to-X communication sounds interesting!

The second feature listed in the email I received yesterday (headed "Mercedes me connect Release 2.0") sounds more useful to me:

Digital Vehicle Key
From the middle of this year, you will be able to open, close and even start your vehicle using your smartphone, courtesy of near field communication technology (NFC)...you can activate the service and use it free of charge for three years after your vehicle's initial registration date."

Having said that, it'll probably be on Android initially since Apple seem to lock down access to the NFC on the iPhone.

Not fussed about remote parking pilot. In eight weeks of use of my GLC, including a lot of parking in well-marked parking bays, it has only actually recognised a parking space once (even despite driving slowly forwards and backwards past spaces hoping it will work). It has however offered to "park" me in slow-moving oncoming traffic

It does actually take a lot of practice, and once you've sussed it it gets easier. Once the Blue P appears on the dash, you have to go past the space, sometimes by about 3 metres. Then the little arrow appears, and then pressing OK will show what sort of space it it (parallel or car park space).

I got quite frustrated with it to start with, but the Missus sussed it out immediately, and showed me how it was supposed to work, which was even more frustrating. Now it works pretty much all the time! :bannana:
