I'm looking to replace the OSF wing at some point over the next few months on my 1994 E220. The rust isnt bad however it will only get worse so may aswell get it sorted out now. Ive been going through this section and from what i've read, genuine MB parts are the way to go and get the work done by a MB dealer. Also since the car is over 8 years old i'll get a 40% discount on Labour and 15% on parts?

So couple of questions, Do these panels come painted or will the dealership have to paint them? What do you reckon the likely cost will be to get this all done at a MB dealership?

Thanks,
C

you will hav eto ahve teh wings resprayed by the bodyshop and possibly other panels blemised for a godd match.

MB usually sub contract the bodywork repairs to external bodyshops so find a good reputabale one that your dealer uses or someone recommends and go direct. As other posts have suggested def go with OEM panels as better fit.

Guys,

Any idea of an approx cost to replace the wing through a MB dealership or through a independant bodyshop (using genuine MB parts)?

Thanks,
C

Hi Cat220,

It all depends on where you source the parts/wing from. Call a local Stelar and find out the cost of the wing and obtain the part number. Use the part number and contact Euro Car Parts and German Swedish and French (I think that they mainly do pattern parts/copies for bodywork – so may be no good…). Find out the bodyhsop that your Stealer would use (unless you go to MB Great West Road, Brentford who have their own bodyshop facilities that I know off - they will not be cheap though…).

A local reputable bodyshop would be able to obtain genuine parts – contact them as well Cat an dget labour quote, painting etc.

I would find the price of the wing for you but just am a little busy at momeent and hate contacting/liaising with the Stealers unless I really need to i.e. service/booking etc. If you get stuck then I’ll try and find out the price pf the OEM wing for you by phoning around (Shude who is very knowledgeable may possibly be able to do this on line for you ;) ).

I will fire up the daimler-chrysler stuff when I get home :)

My local bodyshop said that oem wings are generally better than pattern/GSF/ECP items because they fit better from day one. The bodyshop guy said that he has fitted replica panels before and it's cost more in the end because the labour has been so much more to get the panel to fit *perfectly*. Apparently fussy mercedes owners like to have even panel gaps etc ;)

Shude/Flash - cheers guys really appreciate your help.

Just a thought. Would it be possible to change the W210 wings for the new shape e-class wings? I know it would mean bonnet and poss other front end bits but would it be feasable? The ultimate facelift? ;)

There is actually a company that does carry out such conversions - there was a thread on this but most of us agreed that the body lines did not quite go and it was awful - some SL 129 owner wanted to conevrt his to the new shape SL but did not go ahead with the conversion in the end. Its expensive too.

I personally would not bother as it woudl ruin the car BUT it is possible to do this though.
