c320 cdi on paper!!
Hi all,

Was impressed with this forum and was hoping my first post was going to be about how good my new C320 CDI is, but after purchasing 2 weeks ago from main Merc dealer I'm still waiting on the car:wallbash:

I suppose I'm looking for some unbiased opinion as I'm rapidly losing patience and thinking of pulling out of the deal. This will be my first Merc and have been so looking forward to it but just feel the experience is being spoiled before it's begun.

To get to the point, only fault-allegedly- on car was engine management light, which could be loads of things, dealer said it was glowplugs and this would be sorted and car could be picked up. Glowplugs done, dealer said light stayed on,further diagnostic said ecu. Dealer said part has to come from Germany and they would keep me posted. If keeping me posted meant me phoning a couple of times then they are true to their word!!. I'm just finding it difficult in this day and age that an order can't be tracked and it takes over a week to send something from Germany, is this normal for Merc dealerships?

On the flip side it is under their approved used scheme and I've got documents stating tier 1 warranty and understand they can't fire out any old rubbish and they are doing their bit to give me a fault free car, which by the way was a major reason I went to Merc, however it's not cheap and buying a new-sorry it is used 08 plate- car should be a good experience, but I ain't feelin it right now.

So, looking for opinions, should I be happy it's getting sorted and be patient? or start putting some pressure on? maybe pull out the deal? plenty of other cars out there, although this car has highest spec I've seen in months and it did feel sound on test drive.

Again sorry 'bout the moaning introduction! was hoping to be raving about being the latest Mercedes convert but not yet at least.....

Any feed back would be appreciated and hopefully I've got better news after the weekend.

Cheers all

Perhaps one positive you can take from it is that they'll be fitting loads of new parts!

Thanks Rory, dunno if just being impatient, new car and all that.

Go with your gut feel. If you think by the time you get it you will always be thinking about it going wrong then walk away.

If you wont think like that then be patient and enjoy it.

Thanks man,
Will have a years warranty on it so could probs live with the odd fault but just thought 2 weeks is long enough to get a car sorted, but was still a great drive and great spec too
and at least it should be sorted for pick up, okay patience it is!!

If something else goes wrong with that particular car in your ownership you could end up kicking yourself for buying it - human nature and all that, even if it is still covered by the warranty.

As mentioned already go with your gut feeling, after all there's no rights or wrongs in your situation.

Hope all turns out well regardless.

.... just thought 2 weeks is long enough to get a car sorted,

Don't know if it's finally been resolved but there's a member on here whose almost new C250CDi has been in the garage for 18 weeks due to a noise from the engine/gearbox!

Stick with it mate and have another drive check over before making the final decision! If its the spec, colour and THE ONE probably worth the extra time to solve the issues.

Tony.

Thanks for the advice chaps, hopefully get things sorted this week and get some piccies posted up. Looking forward to being on the forum- with hopefully not too many technical probs!

Agreed warranty not worth the paper its written on anyway, if you want a lot of arguments and dealer hassle going forward accept the car, if it were me I'd walk away now.

Welcome to the world of Mercedes ownership and land of incompetent dealers.

I'm sensing some dealer issues bud!! yeah beginning to lose patience mate, not even had so much as a courtesy call in over a week not exactly filling me with confidence for any future repair!! giving them 'til Wednesday,if not heard or not got car, will bell Merc customer care for some namin' and shamin' and if I don't hear the right noises the deal is off and so might be Mercedes, thought a new customer would be treated a bit better or at least kept informed.... Anyone know a good BM dealer!!

You're having a laugh. ;) They take your deposit and move on to the next potential customer, M-B, BMW etc, maybe the exception is Lexus.
Anyway, the salesman has passed the problem onto the Service Dept, so it's somebody else's problem now, more than likely he's expecting you to back out and if you don't well great for him. It's just a numbers game to them, nothing more.

yep pretty much bang on mate, debating whether just to hang on to my trusty v6 mondeo, although it has seen better days! and had enough crap from fraud sorry ford dealers back in the day too. Was probably a bit silly of me to think Merc were any better.
