Continuing on from Ady's Project, which is all but complete. I have another project I feel may interest you.

A Customer from Stirling asked me a while ago about doing some minor work on a 190E 2.6. The minor work was installing a 300-24v engine under the bonnet with a 5 speed dog leg gearbox. I have a few pics but cannot locate them at the moment, I think they are back in the office so will post them tomorrow.

Ok so the first step was to discuss what the customer wanted and what I insisted on. The Customer wanted the 190E with a bit more grunt. I wanted a safe car. Before agreeing to the project and sorting out the logistics I asked for a number of items, they being

4 pot calipers for the front
Larger disks
braided brake hoses
heavy duty clutch
all the ecu's and looms

The car duly arrived late one night. Apparently the car has been in his family from new and shows love and attention. It wasn't until the following morning when I opened the boot and found the items I asked for. Expecting items from a breakers I was in for a shock. All the items were brand new which made me think that this is a serious player. Engine and gearbox out took no time at all. I have a pic of my grandson undoing the gearbox mounts :D I am not that daft lol. Next was to install a Cosworth front roll bar and a sportline steering box, the engine and trans (supplied by the customer along with the gearbox) were next. I have to fabricate a new gearbox mount as the 190 one is not fitting correctly due to the g/box length.

A day later a LSD turned up, oh joy upon joy, not another dif job  That has yet to be started. Lastminute (Brian) has converted a loom from an auto to a manual one (weeks of work and his own wiring diagram). Turned the engine over and we have sparks where we should have sparks :bannana:

To be continued

Don't know about 124Works, Ian's Customs will be more like it soon.
Sounds good so far.

Hi Ian

Just out of interest what do you think the final bill will be for this conversion because it is one hell of a conversion for a 190E

I could tell you but that would not be fair. Needless to say my bill is not going to be out of this world. I have too much respect for the marque and their owners. Given a different set of circumstances, ie, not needing to work at this for a living, I would do it for free.

I always thought a scruffy looking (but perfectly engineered) 190 diesel, badges intact, with a 500 V8 in it would be nice.

Let us know how it goes?

I will but at present I am slaving away on a number of pressing issues :D

I'm waiting here with baited breath :)

sorry folks, been pre occupied with other things, will reserect this tonight when I get home.

I put a V6 3 liter into a diesel transit 13 seat minibus complete with auto box but did not change the axle, Max speed was 75 mph. It was good fun to drive

Hey Ian, we're all still waiting for the details :)

Well, I am anyway ...

Excellent :D Looking forward to them ...

Can you not stop earning a living and supporting your client base, and TAKE SOME PICTURES!!!!!!???????

;o)

Hear hear :bannana:

I'd forgotten about this but I still want to see the pics ... come on Ian :p

Nice one

And did it all work out ok? How did it drive after the mods?

This car is still with me. I am having a few problems as in it will run on 4 cylinders and not 6. This is due to a faulty distribution head. Am awaiting a fuel pressure tester before I go further as I am not convinced that enough fuel is being pumped. I have driven it and all I can say is "Oh my God" Its a little rapid to say the least. I have had an ignition problem which was the distributor cap that was arcing. Now resolved. The oil cooler has been moved as it caught speed bumps. The owner is sending me new springs a shock absorbers as it needs some beefing up. The exhaust was a nightmare but with some cutting and welding it now fits where it should. All I have to add is that the customer is aware of what is happening and says that he is in no rush as he (and I) want it absolutely right before delivery.

Ian you got me intrigued now, i want to know more....
