Have to say I do like 124's. Seats look a little tired, but looks a nice car, especially in that colour. Think this one has been up for sale for a while, so maybe overpriced. That's a thing I really do not have a handle on with 124's. The prices seem to vary massively.

I've never had a 124, but it is one of the last MB's that I truly like and would want. Really for me anything after mid 90's other than my E55K wagon or a W215 CL65, just don't do much for me.

Although Germans will never be the centre of beautiful cars like the Italians (and to a lesser extent British) one thing I love about Mercedes of this era and before is the symmetry in their design - you can look at that C124 from any angle and it looks perfect and makes the big goggly frog-eye headlights of the 210 look even worse.

An S124 E36 would be my choice, such iconic cars.

Some recruitment consultant friends bought one new in the early '90s - but the convertible. First time I ever saw the seat butler gizmo.

They took me and the lady from their home near Croydon for lunch in the city ... first time I'd ever had grappa, too.

I remember it being very quiet and smooth (the Merc, not the grappa!) .... but then I had a Toyota GTi 16.

They do seem to hold their value well and even leggy ones sell quickly ... made before the accountants were put in charge in the mid-late '90s.

Oh come on, 1930 to 1970, Stunningly beautiful to me. ;)

My Dad owned S124 2.8 TE. That was some machine. He let me take it away one weekend. Me and a friend had a great weekend. I dueled with everything that tried it on. When I think back, the power that car put down was astonishing.

But not a fan of the coupes got to say. To clumsy looking for me. Saloon or estate for me in 124 armour.

Think I'd maybe stump up a little more for this:
1995 Mercedes-AMG E36 Coupe

But where's the body kit? :dk:

Yes that does look nice and if its a genuine E36 then would be a great buy. But as you say where's the body kit and is it genuine? Wheels look wrong too to me, over wheeled as such. Would be good to know the history as it could just have a 3.6 air intake:dk:

Doesn't look genuine to me and it is priced wrong if it was surely?

Could it be an AMG 3.6 engine dropped into a standard coupe shell? Alternatively I guess it's possible to add the air intake pipe with 3.6 stamped on it and the AMG badge on top of the block?

and wheres the AMG steering wheel, AMG instrument cluster etc etc. I suppose you could specify anything you wanted (or nothing?) so a VIN check may be only way to know.

Wheels are obviously the wrong offset.

Looking at the engine bay photo it also appears to have a self levelling suspension reservoir on the right hand side, which seems a bit odd on a coupe and not very AMG?

There's a grey fintail across the road (well, actually directly opposite my driveway over a small cul-de-sac) - 1966 reg and absolutely stunning!
Incidentally, all four cars, including fintail, have been gone since yesterday mid-morning ... not saying some people haven't cancelled their Easter plans, but ...

Guys you should really do your homework - that’s a proper E36 AMG 124 Coupe :)

Bodykit was not standard on these cars FWIW. And the wheels are correct.

Looks like a great example for the money and as genuine as they come

If that wheel offset is factory i will eat my hat.

Will is mostly correct. The car is a genuine and original E36 AMG Coupe.

The bodykit was optional and many cars were not specified with one.

The rear wheels however are incorrect, they are from the rear of a W202 C43 AMG. (8.5JX17)

The E36 W124 had a square set up with the size being 7.5JX17H2 ET42.

The differences with the E36 over an E320 from new was, of course the engine, the AMG wheels and sportline suspension.

The bodykit was optional, as was the exhaust and suspension. There were a few other minor tweaks of course such as gearbox and AMG high flow cats.

They never came with an AMG speedo, steering wheel etc etc.

I know all of this as I'm well into W124's and have owned an E36 Coupe for 5 or so years.
