Hi there peoples...

Right, first issues I've had with the C220 CDI Coupe 55 plate Auto. All of a sudden tonight the car just decided to have no acceleration no matter how far I press the Accelerator, even to the floor, it will just amble along slowly picking up speed.

There are no warning signs on the dash and there was no apparent problem beforehand.

After restarting it is fine again for about a minute or two and then it happens again...???

Have anyone got any ideas please? ;)

Thanks.

PS. Photo of car for identification purposes:

Has a similar issue with my vito...turned out to be a brake light switch on the pedal

Commendations - That is a very well looked after car - appears same as brand new

Hi.

Thanks for the compliments as well as the suggestions, appreciated...

Tell me, I have heard that you can check to see if it is the MAS by disconnecting it, is this correct?

Hello there again.

I have some fault codes which I got off my little OBDII Torque Sensor App.

First one which came up with a exclamation inside a triangle was Code P0237:

And another just written normally was P0150:

I cleared them and then went around the block - car was OK for the first 2 or 3 minutes but then went into "LIMP".
Read for Codes again and came up with the same 2....

Any info please?

Thanks. ;)

It'll be after the air filters, on the fat air intake pipe. It'll be little black rectangle stuck to the pipe with a plug connection to it. Sorry don't know your exact engine.

It's a w203 c220 cdi.
What would happen if it was disconnected?

The MAF tells the engine how much air is going into it, and along with the lambda sensor in the exhaust which measures how much oxygen is left in the exhaust gas (little to none, hopefully) they tell the engine how much fuel to inject to make a perfect 14.5:1 fuel/air ratio. (14.7:1 for petrol)

The ECU runs in 'open loop', constantly adjusting to input from the sensors, but if you unplug either, the ECU will have to run closed loop, where it assumes pre-programmed values. You'll get poor fuel economy, as it can't optimise, but it should run ok.

If it does, you know it's the MAF/MAS sensor. Just unplug the sensor, don't remove it, as dust will get in past the air filters.

Thanks i-CONICA.

There are 2 connections on the MAS, do I disconnect both? 1 Oblong, 1 round(ish).
There is also one round type of Sensor further down the pipe about 6 inches from the Turbo Intake.

Thank in advance.

I believe this is the MAS on the car. It is actually fitted to the Airbox post filtration.

As said I'm not familiar with your exact engine. The big long rounded one looks to be the connector for the MAS, the other one could be the IAT (intake air temperature sensor).

Others will know better I'm sure.

Thanks i-CONICA..... At this stage ANY help is appreciated... :D

That is one thing I do miss about the older Mercs - far more simple!...lol. ;)

Just a quick update - disconnected the main plug for the MAS and she now runs fine... So it'll be a new one then.... £75.00 is the best price I could get one for. (ECP).

Thanks for all your help gentlemen - all very much appreciated!!! :D
