Car is a C220 CDi, 2013. this has happened now for a short while. I did check both batteries , the auxiliary was at 10.1 volts and the main battery at 12.1. Have had the maintenance charger on and the main battery showed 12.4 which it held for a couple of days. Car started , then after I did a short journey and stopped to post a parcel, it showed the same problem. No lights, no start !
This has happened now several times. I changed both batteries, as the local repairer I have used a couple of times checked them both and said they were both in poor condition. Original batteries ,by the looks of them. The car's stop start facility has never worked, thankfully, but after new batteries it does. Must have been disabled by previous owner. so went out in it and did a few miles, stopped, went to start again, nothing !
I have taken it to the Merc dealer at Peterborough and they were going to do a diagnostic check and let me know. Never heard anything so called them next day and was told that they'd tried it four times and no fault. Suggested I leave it with them for a couple of days , called today and got the impression they hadn't tried it again but said they'd give it another go today and call me back. Now I don't expect they will call me back, who does these days ?
So, even with a fully charged battery this occurs. I believe I've seen it said that the module that the key goes into is known to fail, but the Star diagnostic tool is needed to re programme the new unit to the system if it's changed. I don't know how the voltage is measured but believe that the voltage needs to be above a certain level before the car is allowed to start, am I correct here ?
Can anyone shed some light on the possiblities please, I'm faced with a problem which is getting increasingly more frequent and will, no doubt , completely fail at some point.
Thanks in advance, Cliff
