I'm used to the electric fan running on after I turn off the engine on my 220CDi but today the whirring noise has gotten quite a bit louder  (2 different people have remarked on it).

Do you happen to know if it is just the electric cooling fan which runs on after stopping or is there another fan linked to the aircon or something. I've not had a chance to look at it in daylight yet but it sounds like it's coming from the drivers side of the engine bay.

Edit:

I've just noticed another post relating to a Sensotronic brake pump. Could this be the cause. I don't notice it when I'm driving. Just when I turn the engine off.

hello , it won't be the sensotronic brake pump on a w203 c class . I would say its more than likely to be your aux heater , this can be turned on and off from the settings menu in the dashboard display.

This heats up the interior faster :)

Thanks fuzzer. It's actually a w202 but you could be right about the aux heater. I usually have it turned off but just recently, what with the cold and all, I've been using it. Not that it seems to make any difference!

If it makes no difference it isn't working, these things get hot very quickly.
