I am on my third W246. I found this one a little noisier than previously, mainly tyre noise from the rear. I decided to add a layer of insulation and a rear boot tray, this has resulted in a massive improvement. The brand of tyre and tread configuration is the root cause, but they are in good condition and I want to get a year out of them. Thought it might be helpful information for others.

It might help if you told us what insulating product you used. 
It's a know fact that some MB's are a bit overweight due to sound deadening materials.

One of the things that impressed me about my old S204 was the application by MB of what looked like black Astroturf in the rear wheel arches to cut both noise and spray.It might help if you told us what insulating product you used.
