I have recently bought a 2013 SLK250CDi which I really enjoy. The only thing I find is the engine is sooo noisy; I also have E350CDi which is in a different league refinement wise; however it's great fun to drive and really nippy; it's just very unrefined; when it is idling after warm-up the revs seem to sit at same place as when cold rather than drop back like my 350CDi? Anyone else have same experience?

Best to ask the admin team to move your original post than just repost it yourself, it makes it easier for others to follow up and reply.

Mine is certainly noisy at idle (although not as noisy as some 4 cylinder diesels) but after warm up and on the move is quite quiet. No issues with revs.

It pulls healthily and actually makes a pleasant "roar" when pushing hard. A nice engine overall in my opinion.

There are a few threads on these lines. Dont wish to be rude but did you drive it before buying it? I assume the noise was not apparent then or perhaps you only got a short test? Given the other posts it is worth having someone look at yours

Have you turned the stop-start feature off?

Four pot diesels are made for taxis, and it will sound worse because you also own the V6 CDI which will never be as refined as the petrol equivalent but will be a lot more smoother and gruntier.

Does the engine have metallic heat shields? If they're not fitted perfectly they can rattle making any engine sound like a taxi, on my van the noise was more than halved just by applying pressure to the heat shield above the manifold

No I haven't; does it make a difference?

If the eco light is green, then stop-start is on. So with the engine warmed-up when stationary the engine should turn itself off.

Yes indeed it does when the conditions are right; I thought you meant it's better with the ECO switched off.
I am really enjoying the car and it has great performance it would just be good to reduce the engine noise if possible. One thing I do notice is that the difference on the rev counter when it is cold or warm (assuming ECO doesn't turn engine off) is almost non-existent; other diesel cars I have/have had, it normally drops several 100 rpm
is this the same for you?
