Hi all I’m new on here havig just bought a LHD R107, hopefully for the first of several future euro trips. I’m in Liverpool and have seen the likes of MB Tech in Warrington and MD Motorcare on the Wirral being recommended on here.

However there doesn’t seem so be any specific advice fn respect of older cars such as this and I’d be grateful if you have any recommendations of where to start and who with as I assume the latest star servicing tech is secondary to in depth knowledge of these older engines. Happy to stand corrected if that’s not the case!

The car came from the Middle East so the bodywork seems pretty good in terms of rot/rust. There’s clearly a leak on the exhaust system. My priority it’s to give it a really thorough engine service before anything else.
I’m sure I’ll need advice on other matters for parts and interior upgrades but will post separately when I find my way around the site.
Thanks in advance…….

It might be worth spending £40 or so in joining the Official Mercedes Club. The club largely caters for older models and has a massive list of recommended garages and suppliers, and club reps who have specialised knowledge of specific models.

You could try D&R Motors at Formby. We used them for a decade for the family fleet when we lived at Crosby. 01704 830833.

Thanks for the suggestion - I will!

Thanks Jukie. As it happens someone else locally also mentioned them but I must admit I dismissed them as they didn't seem to be a specialist. In your experience did you see older/classic models being worked on there? Cheers

It's 16 years since I've been there so it's difficult to recall what models I saw there. Ray Yates, the R in D&R, was a mechanic at Road Range (MB in Liverpool and Southport) for a number of years (as it was back in the day) before setting up on his own. Not quite the same vintage as yours but he happily kept our 1989 S class running sweetly during our ownership.

I and many others (he was always busy) regard Ray as a specialist. Good luck, wherever you turn :)

Great - thanks Jukie

Didn't it used to be S&R ?
Yes it did. Steve Mercer and Ray Yates were both MB mechs when they left to set up on their own.

Steve did his back in a long time ago (pre-2002) and wasn't able to work on cars any more. Ray kept the company name as S&R with Steve's blessing. From what I know (I did a couple of years as a 30-something Saturday lad!) I'm assuming the 'D' will be Ray's brother in law, Dave Kenyon, who was working there when I did.
