I have a 2011 C180 diesel.
I have two questions.
Does anyone know the content of the service intervals? It says it needs b5 and I would like to do it myself.
I would like an OBDB reader to check things and also to kill the service message. Which one is best and specific to Mercedes? I ask this because i used a no-name one on a Toyota and it screwed up every single thing possible.

thanks for any pointers

you can reset the service indicator yourself - I forget the procedure but google it or search on here - from memory it's a combination of turning key and pressing odo reset

.................maybe not on later cars?? could on my two but they were 1998 and 2004 models

You do not need an OBD reader to reset Service indicators, a quick Google will find the answer for your model.

OBD is a generic system so any OBD interface should work, it is the software that, to a degree, determines what you can see and alter.

For general information, fault code reading, data logging a Bluetooth ELM327 OBD will suffice and an App called "Torque" available for Android and iPhone is very flexible and can be customised to provide specific data read outs.

The reader and App should cost around £15 for both.

I imagine that it was the software rather than the device that caused you problems with your previous car.

There are more expensive code readers available, some will allow you to alter more parameters but most manufacturers (and MB are no exception) will reserve / protect some settings and only allow these to be accessed and changed via the MB Star system.

I recently used this procedure to do a service reset on my W204 with 4 button steering wheel:

Turn ignition key to position I.
Repeatedly press menu button to display odometer.
Press and hold R button Within 1 second: Press and hold “+” button.
After 5 seconds the voltage indicator is displayed.
Release buttons R and +.
Press Menu button. "ASSYST PLUS" will appear in the display.
Press R button. "Service data" will appear in the display.
Press Menu button. "Full service" will appear in the display.
Press R button. Repeatedly press Menu button until "Confirm service?" is displayed.
Press R button. "Service completed" will appear in the display.
Press + button. "No take-back" will appear in the display.
Press + button. "Full service carried out" will appear in the display.
Repeatedly press Menu button to display odometer.
Switch ignition OFF.

Thanks!
Done!
Now I need to find out what the service consists of..
I read that oil, oil filter, fuel filter need changing but also the brake fluid? Seems a bit odd. I have only done 25k miles. Is there nowhere in the fancy electronics where is says what needs to be done rather than some standard checklist regardless of mileage?

Brake fluid is changed on an age rather than a mileage basis because it is hygroscopic.
