HI,

I have just had my 2008 R230 serviced and as a parting shot the Mercedes specials owner informed me that my car requires the following works within the next couple of months and definitely before the MOT,
' Removal of OSF suspension including leg to access chassis rail for the following works'
OSF chassis rail (shelf) - corrosion treatment. May need to have a plate welded or just treated - depends on severity once stripped.

Followed by his workshop doesn't carry out these works as its to much agro.

1. Has any one else had this problem and if so what did they do
2. Does anyone know where I might get this looked at without getting stung by a main dealer,

Thanks for looking

Regards

I doubt if a main MB dealer will take this job on , they are new parts fitters , not mechanics. I have no doubt a main MB dealer will be happy to charge you for an 'inspection' and send you on your way.

If one side is 'going' what's happening on the other side ?

A reputable body shop/motor factors is what you need. Hopefully someone in your area will be on here soon with a recommendation.

I would be inclined to contact a local mobile welder and get him to have a look. Surely if the rail just needs treatment though it can be done without removing the suspension. A photo would be helpful.

Sounds like there is no visible hole as such unless you want to go searching for one. Apply rust treatment, primer & spraycan top coat then a good body shutz (3M?).
Then take the car for an early MOT test and take it from there.
