Other than cross cut and a reasonable number of sheets, what should I be looking for ? - for a small office <10 users, but loads of old stuff to get rid off....
Is this a good deal ?
if you have loads of stuff to dispose of have you considered the national shredding firm SHREDIT ? www.shredit.co.uk they turn up in a big truck and shred everything while you wait & give you a destruction certificate - they lob in archive boxes , lever arch files incl the metal bits and staples are not an issue. cost about £60 or so a time but well worth ot in my opinion. I'ved used them a few times when clearing out old files at each year end eg over 7 years old etc. To be honest the little one will probably drive you nuts as they tend to only take 2 or 3 pages a time and for a big job will overheat & cut out often ( from my experience anyway )
I've got one like the eBay one. It's fairly new, but seems OK so far. I recently bought it to replace my second smaller Fellowes shredder. Both the previous ones broke - the gears are nylon, and they strip after a while.
I've not taken this one to bits to confrim, but I think the gears are abs or alloy, so should last better.
The link on eBay above is really a personal shredder, the office ones are a bit more manly than that.
I have a Rexel unit that takes 11 pages at a time, CD's, credit cards, staples, paper clips and even that needs a good clean once a week just on daily general use.
I've got a slightly bigger version of this which also crosscut (due to me dealing with peoples credit card details).

Small shredders are OK for small amounts of stuff. They will only take a few sheets at a time. They will cut out if overworked. Cross cut shredders have to work harder.
If you have a lot of stuff go with a shredding service to get rid of it and then work out what size of shredder you need to keep up with getting rid of stuff as needed thereafter.
I have a Fellowes small office shredder, bit like that eBay one but with a few more features. Will take anything, stapled documents, has a CD/DVD slot which will also destroy credit cards which is useful.
