Hi all don't know if I'm just thick but I checked my oil level today not long had the car and moved, when pulling the dip stick there is oil all down the stick after I've wiped it clean and put it back in to check it its still the same am I being stupid or amd I missing something, does it mean the car is massively over filled

It would help if we knew exactly which car - and more importantly, what engine (petrol / diesel / etc ??) you have.
"E class coupe" could be many things.
To check the oil, the car should be warmed up, standing on level ground.
Check the oil after about 15 minutes after switch-off.
There should be mark on the stick indicating the recommended level.
If the level is well above this, then it is over-filled and it would be wise to suck some oil out thru the dip-stick tube and re-check.

^^ what he said, particularly the bits about measuring on level ground (this can make a big difference to the reading), and only after the engine has been turned off for 10/15 minutes. Years ago, when we still had forecourt service, unscrupulous operators would take a dipstick reading immediately the engine had been turned off, which would falsely show a low reading, and scare the driver into buying oil from them unnecessarily. Having too much oil in an engine is almost as bad as not having enough, as the crank can dip into the oil in the sump and churn it up and emulsify it.

Check oil on a cold engine ..this way all the oil will be in the bottom of the sump . Once the oil is warm ,the oil will cover the internal part of the engine, even part way up the dipstick tube /

Thanks all ill do it again as I've never had this problem before haha and it's a e250 it was done on my drive which should be level but gonna take it to the local shell garage and do it later my main problem was that there was oil all the way up the dipstick not just the bit to see how much was in it didn't know if there was some reason other than being over filled

I might be stating the obvious here, but you need to remove the dipstick, wipe it dry with a lint-free cloth, reinsert it and then remove it again to see the actual oil level.

Yeah I did it a few times was still thw same its almost like someone had tipped oil down the dipstick tube

Oil level going up can be a sign of unburnt fuel getting past worn piston rings and/of fuel injector problems. How old is this car , does it also have electronic oil level sensor ? If it does the level can be checked in the service menu on the dashboard, depending on model.

It's a 2010 107k on the clock and no dont think it has the electronic oil level could be wrong but I carnt find it

My 2006 C class has it (car is supplied with a dipstick tube but no dipstick from new) Someone on here will be along soon and let you know if your car has the service menu function.
