OM12 car engine the same as Sprinter engine?

The car engines have different head castings on them for different ancillaries and inlet systems apparently, and some have different sized valves, bottom end is the same I have been informed so a car is likely to be a cheaper source of a low mileage short block if i need one.

Recon engine prices look good until you read the small print, they are almost all exchange and the exchange unit can be worn but not damaged, if it's broken like mine is the price shoots up as you have to buy the recon unit outright without the discount for handing in your old unit.

Reconditioned means that the unit has been reconditioned to its original state. Exchange engine means that the unit has been built using new and exchange components, some of which may have been used in other units. You can't sell an exchange engine as being reconditioned.

No, but when you sell a reconditioned engine you can give a discount if you receive a reconditionable engine as an exchange. This is how most of these companies work, they dont have an endless supply of tired engines ready to be rebuilt in stock, they sell you a recon unit and then recondition your old one for the next guy to buy.

read the small print or ring them and tell them you don't have an engine to exchange and watch the price double usually.
