E55k AMG Sold / S211 E320 CDI I6 sold W212 E63 6.2 N/A saloon. S212 e250 cdi .
The 2004 E320 cdi I have just purchased has the Om613 engine I'm sure as says this on the instrument cluster via the engine oil level check display. I thought the Om648 engine proceeded the 613 lump mid 2003. My car is a April 2004 build according to the log book and service book. Are any of the engines considered better than the other. Simular bhp figures. I was certain mine was 648 lump!!

Hi,
Notwithstanding the fact that someone might have changed your engine in the past, but what does your data card tell you which engine is fitted. If you have no data card then post your Vin number and some kind soul may well look it up for you.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

data card giving motor no. 648 at the beginning of the line of numbers. Cant understand why the cluster stating 613 numbers when in oil check display screen!!!

I am getting that Vin is wrong

Not sure where I stand now no history of an engine change. Any other tel tale signs with engine bay or written info.

Cheers.

My 05 S320 CDI says OM648 in the secret menu cluster. Plus the OM648 has a all black plastic shroud apposed to half back and silver over the inlet manifold.

The Om613 uses a Paper element fuel filter which sits in a plastic housing.

The Om648 Uses a Metal canister fuel filter with only 2 pipes going to it.

Take the engine cover off and have a look bud

Thanks guys great information once again.

I had the engine cover off this morning and I do indeed have the engine bay of the top photo you have supplied Gavin. The inlet manifold cover is all black also MWCLS.

Thanks guy's.

I had to tie up the under cover of the car as it had drooped and was catching speed humps all sorted now.

I have to look at the secret cluster again to see what numbers are coming up on the display. seems odd for it to give 613 numbers over the 648.

The 648 bay also seems to have the engine oil dip tube in the photo. the 613 bay doesn't seem to have one in the above picture. I used my measuring stick this morning to look at the condition as well as level on the stick. Changed wipers top evertthing up drives fantastic really does.

Need to see what's at fault with the rear wiper water feed can here the pump working and the water but cant work out where the feed pipes joint the nozzle to spray.

The boot well bone dry no obvious water anywhwere. More research required. :thumb:

It is well known 'feature' that display shows wrong engine type in some of these cars. You will notice different fuel system too, OM613 has aux pump fitted in front of the cam, OM648 has fueal quantity valve and temp sensor at pump flange/block.

My om648 says that on the cluster too. It’s defo a 648 though. I’m guessing it’s a common thing, I’ve read about it online too

I had to tie up the under cover of the car as it had drooped and was catching speed humps all sorted now.

The undertray screws corrode with age and never grip properly after being disturbed, and eventually they fall out and the undertray hits the deck.
A nice bag of new screws and fittings is £6.00. The Chinese seller below is reliable, I have bought many items from him.

OM648 in my S320 CDI 2005. Yours would look just like this.[/QUOTE

The tube with the red cap on in the photo isn't positioned the same on my engine bay its under the inlet manifold cover to the right. I do appreciate the info. As you and others have said just a incorrect display on the cluster read out.

thanks

Tom

8 months ownership of the E320 CDi I and my dad purchased. The car is absolutely fantastic drives really well. Apart from two slow punctures and a fauty injector the car has and is performing brilliantly. Really does pack a punch the l6 3.2 engine. We have put just over 4,000 miles on the car in this time. I did give the car an oil service when we took ownership of it. For what we paid it's been remarkably good car. There is a patch of the body work that has come away from both drivers door and passenger door at the bottom about 150mm diameter in size. I may try and fill this in myself over time. It hasn't formed rust it's like the under material is on show. There is quite a few millimeters in difference of the two surfaces. I was thinking of getting a paint touch up kit to do the job but I think it's best to fill the door correctly. I know photos would help but I can't for the life of me work out how to upload them to the site.

Would the area that's broken away need to be rubbed down and exposed to the raw material to fill it in properly?

I have never done any kind of body work correcting before.

Cheers Tom

Forgot to mention the car has just reached over 205,000. These engines will go for ever if maintained I imagine. Some car are the W211/ S211 :thumb:
