Over revving engine

I'm driving a 2013 Mercedes Benz C180 Blue Efficiency.Just had this happen this evening after leaving a friend home. The car started to sound really noisy and when I checked the gauges I found that it was doing 25 mph and revving to 4000 rpm. And it didn't want to go much faster than 25! I assumed that it was a software problem so treated it the same way I would the computer and rebooted. I pulled into the side of the road and switched the car off, waited about 30 seconds and switched back on and it was back to normal. Has anyone else had this happen? I know that the reboot as such solved it but what could have caused it as I hadn't switched the car off at any point during the journey to and from my friends house.

Not uncommon but there can be a number of causes. Best get the codes read, rather than second guess and spend money unnecessarily. As car is 2013, are you still in Warranty?

Yeah I just bought it recently and it came with a one year warranty so covered there. I'll hold off though and see if it happens again and if it does I'll have it in to get hooked up.
