P2097 error?

I occasionally (and very randomly) get P2097 on my car.

It does not affect performance nor the way the car drives, however, as with everything MIL ON related it is annoying :grrr.

I wonder if any of you M157 owners experienced it on your car?

ps. my car is std 558bhp and not modified.

Hi buddy, code is show as fuel trim in bank1 being too rich. Could it be one of the lamda sensors on bank1 exhaust side which maybe on its way out or a possible exhaust leak? Found a useful video below 🤓🧐

Thanks - i'm tempted to replace post cat lambda's.

However, just trying to gauge is that a 'common issue' or perhaps something that's local to my car? ty
 
If you've got an icarsoft you should be able to read the voltage at the lambda sensors and see if everything looks ok and check if it's pickin up any faults. I'd compare bank 1 and 2 readings
 
^^^ X2 icarsoft is a great tool, will be able to read and determine whether it's the upstream or the downstream sensor 👍
 
Keeping a close eye on this one… icarsoft is in the garage and ‘waiting’ for it.

I wonder if there is a way to proactively figure out if lambda is on it’s way out with MIL off?

There is. Graph its output compared to the other bank. You will see if the sensor is lazy.

What did you do to get rid of it?
 
Reputable MB specialist should be able to diagnose and advise how to rectify it.

In my case, fuel mixture was high on two cylinders and this was down to ‘faulty’ injectors. Now that they been replaced, the car runs much smoother (on idle) and i no longer get emission related errors.

Ps. Injectors are prone to fail in M157 so it should not come as a surprise.

My dad has a e53 amg estate and it was one nox sensor. But they changing both and they have been ordered. Mercedes will change them under warranty.
 
Old thread, posting as may help someone.

i had this same issue.couldn’t find much online about resolving this. I had P2099 - Which is in relation to Bank 2 rather than Bank 1. Same issue

having a discussion with the AMG techs here in New Zealand - they advised to do the following:
1. Fill up with the car with the highest octane available at a different gas station. Clear code and if it pops back up proceed to next steps.
2. Remove bank 2: (Drivers side here in New Zealand), Sensor which is located on the CAT itself. Check to ensure this is firstly tight incase it’s exposed to outside air - Remove and clean the sensor. Once replaced, clear code & see if this does the trick. If not, proceed to step 3.
3. Replace Downstream Sensor.

some other things to look out for is during your initial diagnostic, check the voltage of both sensors and check to ensure the voltage is identical. It’s highly unlikely that this issue is due to a faulty sensor - although I have read about people having issues with them. Plug in the scanner and check the fuel rail pressure. Don't start the car but set the car to the second start position. You should see one of the rails losing pressure in the instance that theres a leak.
