Afternoon all,

I left my house this morning to discover a large piece of roofing mortar sitting on the bonnet of my car (W205 C63S). I was thrilled with this as you might imagine - after much swearing, washing and polishing with Meguiars Ultimate Compound, I managed to remove 90% of the 2 scuff marks it left. However, given the height it fell from, there is now a small dent in the bonnet from where it hit, about 1.5cm across, the kind of thing that cannot be unseen once spotted.

Just wondering if its worth trying to get repaired, or if i'm on a hiding to nothing? I've heard the W205 bonnets are aluminium, so more difficult to reshape?

Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated.

I would attach a photo, but it doesn't show up very well so not a lot of point :(

Thanks,

Simon

I'd talk to Steve at Autotek at Wirksworth. He's done a couple of jobs for me. Fair price and good quality. He works on bikes as well so he admits he's a little OCD. Just the guy you need.

Hi Simon
I would be more likely to find out where the mortar came from and try and sort it through the insurance.
Other than that it very difficult to repair due to it also being so visible. There is some great repair tools on ebay for dealing with the problem you have.
I hope you manage to fix it.

Thanks
John

That is a can of worms I would really rather not open. I don't particularly want to claim on any policy, given the general propensity for insurance companies to use it as an excuse to raise your renewal price by a disproportionate amount. I am tempted to have a go myself, but know that I won't be satisfied. I'm going to leave it until the next time it goes in for a service (beginning of February) and then look at options.

With a car as sweet as yours this will probably bug you every day until it gets sorted. When I had a scrape recently through no fault of my own, I managed to find a great local independent body shop and couldn't be happier with the result (and price)!

So my advice is to try and find the same. Even if it's just for them to share their knowledge and expertise by explaining the options available to you so you can then decide how to sort it. Ring around locally and ask people for their recommendations.

Alternatively it might be worth speaking to your local MB dealer. Mine do their own SMART repairs on-site and the price quoted was actually very competitive.

I can't disagree - I know it'll drive me to distraction eventually. My problem is, I don't feel its big enough to warrant a trip or visit from/to a specialist, so i'm going to enquire at Inchcape MB Nottingham for a quote when it goes in for its 'A' service in early February. I know for a fact that someone with the skills and a good set of panel ticklers will be able to at least make it less obvious, as the underside of that particular bit of the bonnet is accessible without removing the insulation. If I remember i'll update this thread once i've got it sorted (or not).

Speak to Adey, He's done all my bikes and cars, excellent service and good price.

Bodyshops that have offered pointless dent repair in the past always tell me it needs filling and painting, he's always got them out without.

Nice one, i'll certainly consider him if I decide to get it done. Thanks!

MB nottingham service my cars and part pf the service is a check for little dents and dings and they provide a quote for the repairs. so they have thier own smart repairer in site. The prices were very reasonable, but i didnt use the service. I cannot imagine it being poor quality.

Good point. The main Inchcape dealer on Enterprise Way.
