You can't really dismiss this or any other sporting event as frivolous. Life has to go on...even in the bad times. And as Mocas has said, a part of the spending has been on regeneration of a part of London.

And will this area be habitable or affordable for the communities that previously lived there?

At the risk of also appearing pedantic I didn't say that the majority had no say, I said that they weren't interested in the Olympics in general and the pointless torch relay in particular.

In terms of the Olympic project itself, none of us had a say. It was announced amid much fanfare that we were bidding, we won the bid and that was that.
