Help - error code when trying to use these PDFs

Hi, can anyone shed any light on this:
When I try to use this web site I get the following error

PDF_Error.JPG

I'm using Acrobat ver 7 and I've just downloaded and installed the latest updates but I still get the same error.

Any ideas ?

Regards

Netrix

Was the E280 just a UK spec, as when I try to look it up on these special web sites it isnt shown, just the E320 model.

First mentioned here I think. Though posted here too. Should be a Sticky?

Yes well worth a sticky, ive searched for the threads mentioned a few times.

Maybe will re-appear later if its a hardware problem or being hosted on a different server?? LETS HOPE SO.

I knew it might not be up forever, so I downloaded the bits for my car

Whoever was hosting it was adding new pages bit by bit, lets hope it returns.
The section on the 300 24v fuel injection was very detailed in terms of fault finding.

I get the same error when using Acrobat 7.0.8 on my mac OSX 10.4.8. Also unreadable in Preview which normally shows problematic pdf's

Security plug in missing

I assume that Netrix was trying to access the w140 section of the site since thats his car model. It should be pointed out that the data on the site varies according to its content. The oldest models 190 w124 w126 seem to based on online copies of the US twin CD OFFICIAL workshop manuals readily available on Ebay. the w210 w140 info seems to be based on a web based info system which reacts differently. I run an older version of acrobat and the error message I get is " the security plug in required by this commmand is unavailable" My guess is that without this security device/dongle /whatever you wont be able to access the data.:( Nothing to do with your reader.

can somebody post a URL and the page it resides on? I don't appear to get any errors.

Looks like the 140 part of the site is just a dump of the MB DVD. Also seems that the pdf files on the site are all password protected, & presumably unlocked when the disk is installed. There doesn't seem to be a plug-in that can be copied across to open them :(

Have however found the trick to running the Web-based ETM (electrical troubleshooting manual) which you may find helpful.

You need to download and install a graphics plug-in for Internet Explorer (not sure if it works with Mozilla yet). Download from http://mb.braingears.com/140_DVD/Utils/whip4.exe

Put this somewhere safe on your PC and run it

Then launch the ETM page at:
http://mb.braingears.com/140_DVD/Classic/etm/start.html

When you run it and a wiring diagram loads you'll get a pop-up warning that the Whip ActiveX component wants to install. If you allow that you'll then get colour coded wiring diagrams for each of the components listed plus picture locations.

Enjoy! :)

hmm yes, I see, that doesn't happen with the W210 section which is just a standard PDF for the whole technical documentation in a 21mb PDF file download. The 140 section is split up, and the URLs are encrypted and not standard URLs, the page source of the .htm file is pretty wierd, no http:// to the links or URL references.
