Evening All - a leaflet arrived in the post inviting me to the “Platinum Star” event weekend of 10-13 Nov where there will be exclusive offers and discounts. Sounded more special compared to other sales events I have been invited to in the past.

Previously there were deals to be done at dealerships but the new “take it or leave it” agency model has meant no deals are offered so this does sound promising. A quick google and it turns out most dealerships are having this event.

I have visited the dealership a few times this year for warranty work and every time the sales floor is void of customers.

Does this sound like something worth going to? Anyone have a view of purchasing this year via the agency model?

It’s just a sales promotion, but naturally the sales team are keen to whip customers up into a bit of frenzy to encourage them to pull the trigger on a deal.

I would be stunned if you couldn’t get the same deal - or better - outside of the event, regardless of what the sales people say, eg limited time, VIPs only, etc.

Buy based upon the specific car, condition, history and deal, and try to forget the rest of the fluff like red carpet, roped off areas, black curtains ,tinsel and jazz hands.

Oh. My. Goodness. I have been invited now too, a personal invitation from the Dealer Principal no less. Apparently validation of my unique code is essential to gain entry to the event and benefit from the exclusive offers #vip #lookslikeimadeit

Same, I have two, one from my local one and one from the one in York where I bought the car.

I’m starting to think that I might not actually be a VVIP, and that thet it wasn’t an exclusive invitation from the Dealer Principal. It’s just been advertised in the blooming radio. I might throw away my unique code now.

Speak for yourself, I’ve had two invites from different dealerships! One from the General Manager and one from the Head of Business.
They have emailed me, written to me, and sent me various text messages.
I feel so special. 🤩

I think the slowdown is starting to bite. If you fancy a 911 turbo S I believe the OPC dealer principal will offer you hand relief with a smile.

Second hand car prices are on the way down as well. When I p/ex'd my C250d 4matic PP back in April WBAC price was £21,500 . since then it has slid to £17,500 about two weeks ago. I did another check this morning and now down to £15,400 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! down £6100 in 6 months.
MB and other prestige marks are now in a bit of a fix , they've all jumped on the bandwagon and increased their new car prices due to supply shortages and now that supply is much better the trade in price of used cars are really coming down. So when you go to this event the SE might give you a nice discount on an overpriced new car and offer you peanuts for your p/ex. Lose Lose.

Shhh! Don’t tell everyone, it’s only supposed to be EVs that have plummeted in value recently…! ;)

Another Platinum Star event this weekend.
Called dealership.. said same as the usual advertised offers. Not sure what that the event actually is.
Been to two dealerships, neither seem to be interested in a sale. Things have changed a lot since this new sales model went live last year.

Same here I’ve been bombarded with emails texts and phone calls. Even got an email saying they’re extending the event.😀

I’ve also had the plethora of emails and texts. I’ve ignored the phone calls.

But I did start to think I was special because they’d extended the event for me - then you go and tell me I’m not the only one they’re doing it for :(

Last year they kept phoning to persuade me to test drive the new SL. Didn’t like it that I wasn’t interested in paying over £100k for a 4 cylinder that’s gone back to a soft top😅

I am now wary of the new ‘Agency’ model you mention.

I truthfully don’t know the legal ins and outs of it but when I had an issue with my car bought from a Dealer in March I was told they couldn’t help me further as I had bought the car from Mercedes and not from them.

In hindsight we notice the purchase documents carry the MB Milton Keynes address but I wonder why we should go to a dealer which is an ‘Agency’.

As I said I haven’t challenged that, perhaps someone should because you only realise the implications when you have a problem.

I’m wondering now on reading this thread if Platinum Events are actually under the ownership of MB and not the dealer.
We bought during a VIP event which could be similar.

I am lucky enough to get invites from my local Marshall’s, from Inchcape in Warrington and MB in Kings Lynn having purchased cars at all three…. same bit of card, same advert and only one call this promotion..
