Hi, I've been hoovering the car today and noticed those little things which need addressing, the vents on the dash or the surround needs replacing so advice needed with this please like how do they come out to replace, it looks like someone already has tried but with the lack of finesse! Also I found a chrome ring which obviously fits over the ignition but it will not stay in place so is there something else missing please?

Looks like that vent part is all one piece .And how the hell can this part get chewed up like that The ring is only a push in fit, use two sided tape or a little silicon to hold it in place .But dont use super glue if you do you will only damage the finisher removing it after for switch replacment

Thank you again Optimus and precisely, I have terrible ocd so they say.... I don't think I'm fussy but I do like everything to look right and how it should, seeing this is driving me potty though, I found that there should be a rubber shroud over the ignition- for the chrome trim to sit in place over, purely by accident from this place MBspecialist - new & used spareparts for all Mercedes-Benz cars I'm tempted to take the plunge though works out at £30 for a piece of rubber... I get it, if that is what it takes then it has to be bought but am trying to contact a Merc dealer in the UK to see if they can supply one, trouble is, Peterborough parts dept are not answering the phone and I am becoming lary..again, so i'm told.

Pretty sure you pop the inner parts of the vents out first with a flat head the the screws are to the back

Try Rob at [email protected] had lots of parts off him for my W124 so you might be in luck if he has a 190E on board , but the switch looks a lot like mine so the w124 rubber insert might fit. Are you a member of the Mercedes-190E.co.uk Forum ? free to join you will find one on there .

This is how to remove them .Use a pair of needle pliers with a rag on the jaws and pull out the fins see picture .
Then you will find 2 screws one each side remove them and it will come out .pic06.jpg pic07.jpg

Thank you very much, I shall have a go at this!
