Dear all,

I have a Mercedes A180d sport from 2019 with 52000 miles and full service history. I have the 1.5 Renault engine.

I am having a potential problem with the engine.

I have some smoke coming form the top/back of the engine after a 10 minutes drive. I cannot identify where it is coming from. There is no smoke or smell at idle. It seams diesel evaporating from the Catalytic converter but not sure, At times the smoke seems to come from under the plastic cover. Not a lot of smoke but visible after a good run and immediately after opening the bonnet. there is smell of oil/diesel burning.

The oil is recent and the level has not changed. Antifreeze is clean. I removed the top engine covers and I could not find any leak (apart from a very small oil leak on the right corner of the plastic valve cover which I cleaned, but old an minimal). The turbo pipes and intercooler are perfectly clean. the PVC pipe completely clean. No liquid coming out from the PVC open bit. No visible leak anywhere. There is some little smoke coming from the oil dipstick with the engine hot but I would say normal? see picture. No blow by although I had a couple of micro drops of oil spitting out with the engine hot. I believe still normal? The dipstick in this model is large and used also to poor fresh oil.

The car and engine seems to work perfectly and there is no light on the dashboard. The turbo seems strong and not making any strange noise. The engine still showing 115 hp on the infotainment when pushed.
The car has been driven mainly for short journeys. Perhaps It just needs a good long drive on the motorway at high speed/revs?

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTION? THANK YOU!!!!

PS I was trying to sell this cars and I believe some Gypsies that came to see the car poured some drop of diesel everywhere in the engine bay and in the antifreeze to try to buy the car cheap. I replaced the antifreeze and seems now free from diesel contamination. I cleaned the extra diesel drops. Some could have gone in hidden places but I have driven the car 3-4 time already to full temperature so I was thinking any residue should have been drying by now?

Before you give it a good run (which is a good idea) can you read the codes just in case it wasn't due to a few drops of diesel burning off and there is something lurking?

good idea. I only have a Carista reader but with the car scanner app I should be able to read any error code. Will try shortly

I have found no error codes. at least using car scanner which should cover any basic error

still smoking!!! seems to come from the cathalitic converter. potentially a turbo leak? strange that started smoking after stopping at idle.

see attached video!!! the recorded sound is strange but it was at normal idle

There is no smoke or smell from the exhaust. is it possible there is residual diesel in the cathalitic converter case left from the fraudsters when they spilled diesel all over the engine? I have driven the car a few times and I would expect any residual diesel to have dried up?

There is a bit of oil on the little mat under the black crack case breather (the round bit) . I tried to remove some excess with a kitchen towel and not much came off. the smoke seems to come all around the back of the engine though. If you any suggestion they will be appreciated. I will have my local mobile mechanic coming around this week.
