Premium Sound on build sheet, no HK badge in car?

I'm looking at a car at the moment, highly specced and have done a VIN decode and see it has option 810 Premium Sound, which should be part of the Premium Plus package that it comes with. However looking at pictures, and as confirmed by the dealer, the tweeters don't have the HK logos on them, it just seems that it's the basic spec sound.

Is there any reason this would be the case? Would/could the original purchaser have asked for it to be removed even though it was part of the PP package? Or is it even possible that the wrong grilles were installed?

They are hard to see and embossed into the Chrome on the door not a badge (apologies if you already knew this)

I don't think there is any chrome though.

My old CLS looked something like this:

The one I'm looking at looks like this:

Do they still use HK on newer cars, is it not Burmiester ?

Are the pictures 100% from the car you're looking at? If HK, they should say HK and it's clearly visible even though they're embossed.

Yes definitely from the car I’m looking at, using the number plate to get the vin and decoding the vin I find option 810, without seeing the logo in the car. It’s definitely the right vin I’m deciding as everything else matches perfectly

Out of interest, which site did you use to get the VIN from the REG? Was it a pay service?

Yes it’s a paid service that I have an account with. It’s for developers to integrate into car related websites etc but you can just use the function without doing anything further.

If you want, I can check the VIN on EPC for you for an 'official' decode

From what I read, option 810 specifies an upgraded sound system in general, but does not specify which.

HK, B&O, Burmester, all came under option code 810.

So it would seem that the car does have an audio upgrade of some description, but it might be just a couple more speakers in the front and an additional speaker under the rear parcel shelf.

In short is could be anything... option 810 meant different systems on different cars at different times.

What car is it?

99% sure the W222, W213 and W205 all use Burmester for option 810.

I have option 810 and it's the lower Burmester option which means I also have black tweeter pods in that position (option 811 which is "High-End" has silver roundels that rotate out).

However, I've ripped that shyte out and installed some speakers that aren't made of old bog roll tubes and sticky-back plar-stic!

Yes please!

Ahh, CLS.

That is HK I think and the silver grille has HK "stamped" in it.

Might be a similar deal with more than one level of HK.

No it’s definitely HK and it’s definitely meant to be a black and silver grille. I had a different version of the same car so I’m sure how it’s supposed to look. Which is what made me ask this as it’s clearly looking wrong

From the 2015 brochure, option 810 is this as expected.

The top premium sound in this model was B&O

Hi,
Just checked the vin and can confirm code 810 Premium Sound System.
That is one serious high specced car highest one I think I have ever seen.

It is, the mystery still remains about why there is no HK labelling in the car though. Not that it really matters, I can still do an audio upgrade down the line, I was just curious as to why.

The photo you’ve show is the standard system. From that photo it looks like a Premium spec - reversing camera, memory seats but no keyless go or Harmon Kardon. But the VIN code, as Andy says, seems to have every single option available for a UK car at the time. So either the VIN is incorrect or the photo is of the wrong car I would suggest. Hopefully the latter...

It’s definitely the right car, they’ve done a video of it for me and it definitely has keyless go and all the other options specced on the vin. Very strange.
