E250 coupe
Cold morning around 4 weeks ago, temperature -4 started car as normal and then noticed clock advancing 1 hour on it's own volition !
At the same point Mercedes logo then Comand alert come onto central screen as normal, centre console lights up and radio comes on.
These systems then all start then turn on and off intermittently, only the radio works now and only on one station as you cannot navigate using the silver button by the central armrest.
So no sat nav, cd, radio or any other controls, have checked fuses and replaced battery with a new one as advised earlier, clock still advances 1 hour after battery replaced.
Other than that the car operates as normal.
Live in North East of UK car is 2013 E 250 CDI

Best Regards,
Paul

If your car is the face-lift W212, and assuming it's a saloon and not a coupe or cabrio, then it will have COMAND Online NTG4.5 (or, rather. 4.7).

Replacing this system needs to be done by a specialist due to issues relating to antitheft code and maps code.

Good Morning and thanks for the swift response the car is the coupe model registered 31 01 2013

The E-Class coupe is actually a C207 (not W212), and it is based on the W204 C-Class. The C207 face-lift model was introduced in 2013, but I can't tell if your car is a late pre-facelift or an early facelift model. I believe that the infotainment system was upgraded from NTG4 to NTG4.5 with the face-lift model.

EDIT: Just saw the photos, it's a pre-facelift model.

It will have option 527 COMAND DVD APS WITH NAVIGATION which is NTG4 with single-disc DVD drive (and the large PCMCIA slot).

Ahh ok, what would you recommend as best way forward with resolving this issue, replacing the infotainment system or would it be a software issue ??
Thanks again,
Paul

It is the one with the sd card card reader see pics below, left pic is the one from the vehicle. If i managed to get a second hand unit where would i get the necessary codes to pair it with the vehicle ??
Or could i just get a different system altogether fitted,
Thanks in advance,
Paul

The unit in the photo is COMAND NTG4.5 (or 4.7, which is the latest version of 4.5 Gen 3).

COMAND NTG4.5 is locked to the car's VIN. If buying a second hand unit off eBay, then you need to make sure that the unit has either been unlocked (by removing the anti theft protection using STAR before the unit was removed from the donor car), or that the antithetft code is provided with the second hand unit.

Alternatively, you can contact an MB specialist who should be able to unlock the second hand unit for you, though my understanding is that they will need to do this physically in the car.

Also, the maps are locked to the car's VIN as well, and so a new maps PIN code will need to be generated. The new PIN code will be unique to your car's VIN and the maps version (e.g. v20.0 2020). Without this, the NAVI option won't work.

Afternoon, thanks again for all the information much appreciated !!
One other question ? how do we generate a new PIN code is that something the MB specialist is able to generate ?
Thanks Again,
Paul

The anti-theft code is generated by using MB STAR online to connect to the MB central computer in Germany, and it needs to be done while the replacement unit is installed in the car. Many specialists won't do it unless you can demonstrate where the replacement unit came from. Without the anti-theft code, the replacement unit can't be used. The maps is less of an issue, if you don't buy a new maps code than the navigation won't work but everything else will.

I have taken the unit out of the car photo attached is there a part number or any info in the photo I should be aware of when trying to replace it ?

Managed to find a company who will come and install a unit and code it for me !!!

In the cable block from the comand unit which is now disconnected and radio removed should the fibre optic cables be shining when you turn on the ignition ??

Thanks,
Paul
