My C207 wouldn't start this morning, the problem started last night, when the amber temperature warning light came on and the fan kicked in. So checked the coolant level this morning and that was fine, but it seems the fan had been going off intermittently all night, and still is, when I tried to start the car, totally dead. I'll phone my indie when he opens, but in the meantime, any idea's? ☹

Thanks, but I've not got a charger, not had one for years, perhaps now's the time to buy one. 🙄
I find the CTEK mxs 5 very good.
there’s an option to hard wire a connector in, to make hooking up easy.
it’s small enough to connect it up and leave it in the engine bay with only a cable going into the car, so can be handy for overnight charging etc.

Update, went to my indie, and he said all that I've described, it's pointing to the battery, so I've bought a battery charger, I'll put it on charge and hopefully it'll start tommorow, then I'll take it to my indie, he can check it further. 👍

Wouldn’t it have been better buying a battery or is your current one fairly recent?

It's been on the car as long as I've had it, which is 4y 9m don't how long before that.
The date of manufacture is sometimes embossed on one of the terminals (month and year). 10 years or older would benefit from replacement :)

If it has stop-start, and you use it, it can easily be less than ten years. My diesel CLS350 needed a new battery at eight years. I've also seen it suggested, and I suspect it's correct, that regular use of stop-start can wear camchains prematurely.

Never use stop/start never have, don't like it.

Put the new charger on, the fan has started, moves for 5 secs then stops moves for 5 secs then stops on so forth, I'll leave it charging overnight and see were we are tommorow morning, hope it starts. 🤞🙂

Can you disconnect the fan for now? It sounds very much as though that's what is flattening the battery. As soon as there's enough juice to run it runs for five seconds, uses up what little there was, then stops. You need the battery fully charged in the morning to start the car.

Don't know how to disconnect the fan, what you've said about the fan sounds about right, I'll see if it starts tommorow (touch wood) and take it to the indie.

What if it doesn't start?

Do you have a fuse decode chart? If not, see here: C207 All fuse/relay box details

I think you'll find its fuse F151 in the F32 fuse box. Pull it, and if the fan stops, you're sorted. Don't forget to replace it after you've started the car in the morning...

Alternatively, you could simply disconnect the battery and charge it without it being connected to the car.

After 15 hours charging still won't start, totally dead, the fan had been going on and off all night, all electrics are working, it just won't start, so I'm presuming that's the auxiliary battery making them work, one thing is the analogue clock is whizzing round, so hopefully it's just a new battery, I'll see what my indie says later, one last question can you jump start the car..🙁

Are you saying that the main cooling fan is running while the car is off and locked?
