Protecting red paint

A Class A160 AMG Line
Hey all,

I’ve recently purchased a Jupiter Red A160 AMG Line. It’s a 18 plate and has done 11k miles.

I’ll be parking the car on my drive, (not under any trees, so no sap etc.) but it will be open to the elements. Growing up, my dad had a red Vauxhall Cavalier which, over the years, went from bright red to a dull pinky colour.

Question: Are modern paints much more resilient than cars of old? I’d hate to see the lovely red of my new car fade away over the years. Do I need to think of getting someone to treat the paint in some way? I’ve heard of protection that you can put on which lasts a year o so - is this recommended? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

First off, congrats on your new car!

You’ll get lots of answers ranging all the way up to ceramic and other coatings, but any quality car wax will provide UV protection to keep your paint a lovely shade of red. Apply it two or three times a year and all will be fine.

Agree with above, any decent wax will do (note, wax, not polish).

Over the years I've had numerous red cars, or looked after them for family members and the only issue was where one had a resprayed panel which started to change shade slightly. MB did have a problem with the lacquer on one red paint (Fire Opal) a few years ago but that was specific to that colour, so yours is not connected, if anyone mentions 'Mercedes' red paint' to you.

Red paint used to be a real pain. Fading to pink with UV exposure. Modern paints are not a problem at all, Should be find with just regular washing and waxing. I have a few red cars over the years and despite the problems MB had with Fire Opal our SLK in Fire Opal has been the best of the lot paint wise. Now 14 years old with no fading.

OK this is really great information! Thanks so much for your replies. I'll do some research into good wax treatments!

Use a good sealant like cg jet seal then top off with wax. Collinite is good for the coming winter months
