My 1995 C180 is pulling to the left, I've had the tracking checked and it was out but has been set to factory spec's, the tyre pressures have been checked at the front and adjusted to 32psi.

Yet still she pulls to the left, the garage has advised that the front left tyre seems to be a little low on tread at the edge but not illegal, is it possible that the brake caliper could be sticking or could it be the front tyre tread causing the issue?

It could be the tyre causing the pull, try swapping it with another (if size/type allows). Tracking rarely sorts this out and you should get the full suspension geometry checked by a competent outfit.

If you are new to Mercedes you should be aware that their steering geometry makes them more sensitive to road camber than many cars. If the tracking was well out and the front left has worn unevenly then this "legacy" uneven wear may still cause the car to track unevenly until both front tyres are the same. To be honest its best setting up track geometry on new or a set of evenly worn tyres.

Thanks guy's, I'll try swapping some tyres around and see if it makes a difference

May have found the cause of my drifting to the left, the AA brought me home tonight, problem was diagnosed as a collapsed front wheel bearing.

Pulled at all apart and the front part of the bearing looks virtually new, the rear part though looks as though it's been on for god knows how long, it had collapsed alright, the roller bearings had separated from their housing and the housing had fused itself to the spindle. So much for it having a Merc service history then!

Good news is that the spindle and hub both appear to be undamaged, now wondering if there are any more surprises lurking somewhere?

I'll update tomorrow when it's all back together.

Hi,
I would of hoped who ever did the tracking would of pointed out a wheel bearing that was ready to do that.

No, no mention of anything to do with the bearing, they just said it could be the tyre,

I've replaced the bearing and when it's all nipped up, I have some play in the wheel still, the new bearing race that fits in the back of the hub wouldn't drift in, it just dropped into place, could this be the cause of the play?
