R129 (2001) SL500 Silver Arrow No 21 of 100

My R129 came (as an Approved Used) with Ceginus wheels. I managed to find a 5th as a spare - the set went to a forum member :D when I got my AMG I wheels.
I had a set on one of my 190s (came with the car) - they were also used on the R129 ‘Mille Miglia’ and some of the 124 500s :thumb:

As an aside
The split rim AMG wheels (which obviously look great and are popular amongst enthusiasts) are known to crack too. Goes with the territory really.

The original 3-piece ones were known for cracking near the bolt holes, but I never heard of any issues with the later 2-piece type. IMHO these really suit the R129 ... the combination of diameter, width and offset just works. The Ceginus always looked a bit too skinny to me. But as always it's 100% down to personal taste!

As an aside my favourite limited edition R129 was the Designo Mystic Blue one ('Final Edition'?) but these were incredibly rare as a 500 ... I've only ever seen 320s for sale. Same wheels as the Silver Arrow, but you can't have everything :D

As another aside my R129 already had rolled arches so might have been fitted with the AMGs originally.

Should be on the data card, unless they were rolled for the Ceginus wheels (?)

The 2 piece later AMG ones do not have a cracking issue. The 2 piece BBS "Uglies" (can't be ar£ed to look up the correct name of them) that are on the silver arrow and what I had suffer from extreme corrosion between the "pieces" and can "crack" when pressed apart for refurbishment. A completely different issue to the early OZ splitties. 😁

My R129 (of unhappy memory...) had a set of Carlsson wheels on it, three of them fit only for scrap. A very nice man paid me £400 (I think it was) for them; he intended to scrap the inners and outers and ship the centres to the USA, where apparently he would make a nice profit because the Americans were mad for them. Those and the original AMG bodykit on it were worth half what I'd paid for the car...

The exhaust on that car in one of the pictures looks to be canted downwards and outwards; it's straight in the other two shots, and doesn't look too bad.

It's mainly the fronts that seem to go on the 3pc, less meat around the bolt holes. They can be welded successfully, I had a couple of pairs of fronts done about 15 years ago to use as everyday wheels and they're still going.

I still have those wheels Bill :thumb:, although they'll be going on the car when it sells. If anyone wants them (and can provide an exchange set of something in the deal) let me know.

Looks like the oil pressure gauge doesn't move when he starts it🤔
Don’t think it has an oil pressure gauge, are you looking at the oil temperature? :)

I noticed it had oil temp rather than pressure ... I guess that came in with the M113 ('99 facelift)?

Correct, oil pressure gauge was dropped in favour of oil temperature for the facelift R129 with M113 and M112 engines.

It’s up to over £22k now, reserve not met - less than a day remaining on the auction! :)

Finished at £24,800 reserve not met.

I don’t think the reserve would have been much higher 🤷🏻‍♂️

From watching the TV show they normally (but not always) manage to do a deal with the highest bidder.

Good catch, I just assumed it was pressure, I should have looked closer!
