Hallo chaps. I know I said I had given up but just got the thing back this week from the garage. Problem not solved. However, bear with me.
Previously, the light would come on after perhaps 10 to 30 seconds of driving, and either reduce power or cut it altogether. Light still comes on but no drop in power - at least it still went like it should do.
Also, and I find this the most interesting part. When actually inducing wheelspin, the ASR does NOT kick in - even with the ASR light on - although the yellow warning triangle on the dash lights up. I think when it worked properly, both lit up?
So, is it feasible to have some fault whereby the ASR is disabled and hence shows the warning lights as being on/faulty?
thanks, and apologies for being back on this topic.

My ASR light comes on about 3-4 min after starting the car and then stays on, no loss of power but no traction control either. It does the same thing every time and has done since I have owned it.

I have swapped out the ABS/ASR unit after diagnosis to the pressure swith but hasn't made a blind bit of difference. The fault lies somewhere else which in turn is causing the pressure switch fault code to be thrown up.

Nobody seems to know much about this system unfortunately. I'm probably going to remove the dash bulb and leave as is now, spent enough money trying to trace the fault and in any case, it's much more fun!

Thanks for that. Sounds the same. I can live with it not working, it's the kicking in and reducing power I can't live with. But if this latest version of the fault is finally it, then bulb out and much more fun as you say!

Think I posted this before or maybe on another forum. This guy describes how to disable the ASR to give full power on a contemporaneous W140 coupe ???? Certainly worth a try if you are desperate ? But until it’s fixed, I performed a little trick that was mentioned in one of the many ASR posts: connect pin 6 on the Diag Connector (38 pin) to pin 1 (ground). This forces the ASR module in the diagnostic mode and it returns the car to a normal accelerator pedal. In fact, in a short drive, the car seemed to have a bit more power. That probably was my imagination. Of course you have NO ASR!

Yet another ASR Problem; '94 S500

many moons ago, i had a '94 sl500, and created that exact same fault by fitting a set of 18" amg alloys that has 285 30 18 tyres at the rear...car would go into limp home mode after maybe 25mph.

my main dealer service manager told me to change tyres to 265 35 18 and problem vanished.

my not be the answer you need, but it does show how sensitive to small issues modern mercs are.

p.s. i loved that sl500; wish it was still tucked away in the garage..

Mine does it before you have even moved anywhere....
