Hello
My c250d looks to have the original cassette / radio. What is the procedure for removal. There are no holes on the front for removal keys so I am a bit stumped. Do I have to remove the heater fascia/controls?
Many thanks.

First off, welcome to the Forums, you'll get answers on just about anything on here.

The bad news is that your fascia has to come out to remove the radio, but it isn't that much of a hassle. The only slightly specialist tool you will need is a T20 torx screwdriver.

Follow the relevant bits in this thread and good luck.

Let us know how you get on and don't be afraid to ask.

Brilliant

Thanks very much for your reply.
Everything I need in one hit.
I will definately be back on this forum.
Thanks again.

if it original there should be two horizontal groves in the bottom corners
need special keys tho ( or make some like me)

Removing a stereo from a W202 can be done in under a min if you know how. (with car switched off)

1) With a key/screwdriver turn the plastic lock 90 degrees on the vent in the footwell.

2) Remove the plastic grill, and pull the carpet over.

3) Move your arm into the hole and feel/twist it upwards through the cabling (cafefully) until you can feel the back of the stereo

4) Carefully push forward until the stereo & bracket are loose.

I can do it in under a min :D

Success

Thanks for your replies. I found the slots, made two tools from a hacksaw blade and hey presto out it came.

Just push it forward and that's it?

The hardest part is getting your hand in to push it forward, but essestially, yep thats it.

You will need to firmly push forward and make sure one side doesnt get stuck. this method will remove the cage aswell as the headunit.

Karl, access is from the driver's side footwell, yes? I was feeling around on the passenger side the other day while cleaning out my blower motor & filter, and there didn't seem a way to access the stereo from that side.

Thanks
Andrew

Passenger side sorry!

I will make a video clip if I can figure out how to do it one handed :D

Made the video today, 13 seconds not bad eh? :)

It would take longer if I had not had a trial run before filming.
