year 2000 E class estate fitted with roof rails and sunroof

Rain seems to drip from the top corner of the screen area - very irritating - drips off the top of the A post internal (grey fabric covered) casing.

I have had the screen out and re-sealed to eliminate this.

The sunroof drains are clear.

Are there other 'penetrations' through the bodywork where rain can leak in?

If anybody can give me a steer as to where to look or wher to apply silicon (or do something else) that would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Peter

Simple check sellotape the sunroof up on the outside and see if it still does it.

Used to be a common problem on landrovers and was the sunroof drains had blocked then water would overflow into the cabin.

Maybe open the roof and clean and treat the rubber seal, mine had green algae on it.

rainwater

Thanks Lynall

but checked that and sunroof is ok

What I am wondering about is how the roof rails are fixed - if they go through the 'shell' then water can come in ?

I am hoping there is an obvious/common problem that somebody on here knows about.

Dark evenings aren't exactly good for leak spotting either :wallbash:

Hi, hope you notice this as it's an old thread! I have exactly the same water ingress issue you describe with a w210 estate (non sun roof). My drive has a fair slope on it and I noticed that nose down gave a worse leak than nose up. I think the issue is the front screen either leaking at the sealant or through delamination; there are a few white marks to suggest this.
However I've had a successful result by carefully prying off the trim that bridges the gap between the screen top and the roof. I've put a bead of silicon sealant across the roof so when the trim went back on there was no longer a gap between roof and trim. Although I except that a new screen may be the longterm answer so far so good.
