Re "Job's worths"

The fact that I am acquainted with Dave doesn't make my point any less valid. The fact that you seem to think its open season on someone because of what they do for a living just goes to prove my point really. Maybe you should grow up a little?

LOL. This is hilarious. &nbsp; &nbsp; <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>

Hi M Class,

Welcome to the forum.

I think you have missed the point here.

I don't think anyone is having a go at Dave because of what he does for a living - Its the way he has portrayed himself and his attitude here that has upset people. He only has himself to blame. To blame it on the job he does is quite simply an attempt to evade responsibility for his actions.

The only link to Dave's job, is the fact that so many (not all I grant you) from the traffic division behave with a similar &quot;holier than thou&quot; manner just like Dave has on a few occasions here.

The question we should be asking perhaps, is whether the job itself has conditioned them to behave in such a way or whether the recruitment process encourages this kind of attitude?

I never wished that Dave would leave the forum and I dont believe he should be banned. I believe that the majority of Dave's posts were constructive to the forum but I do think he could learn to be a bit more diplomatic at times in the future.

That's my 2 pence worth anyway.

I can't see that any recruitment process would work this way?!!  I can see how having to deal with the sort of thing a Traffic Cop gets to deal with would give some &quot;everyday situations&quot; a greater significance <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Example - You are hit by someone who is overtaking on a main road as you approach from a side road. For evermore you would recognise side entrances and minor roads as a real hazard when overtaking. Your mates might have their eyes openned a bit too. Traffic Cops deal with &quot;injudicious overtaking&quot; (and its consequences) day in day out, you might never see the consequences if you never suffer? <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dontgetit.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':dontgetit:'>

Eitherway. I think the guy should have been cut some slack - I am sure with a personal insight into his day to day, everyone might see where he comes from? <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/colgate.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':colgate:'>

 <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/whatsthat.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':wotthat:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

I have never met Dave btw!!! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sarcasm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sara:'>

Or Mrs Turner <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Or Koolvin (Great name btw - do you have a self-image problem <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/colgate.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':colgate:'> )
<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':silly:'>

OK, on the recruitment side of things.

Below is a typical style of question used in the police recruitment procedure. There is only one right answer.

You are off duty, at a friends engagement party. You notice a friend smoking canabis.  What do you do?

Realistically, you would probably approach your friend and remind them that you are a policeman and ask them never to do this in front of you again as you are duty bound to arrest them. If you answerred this way, then you've just failed.

However, the correct answer is to confiscate the drugs and arrest them.

What kind of person would really do that to a friend at an engagement party?

It seems to me that this style of recruitment would weed out the good cops and encourage only the liars (those that would lie about the answer), or complete and utter bast@rds that would really act this way.

WOW!

Spike - do you recruit Cops? or is that off the Web? <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">what do you want me to do people of this forum?

I don't think he should be banned.

My issues with Dave have got nothing to do with him being a policeman.

I just wondered whether his attitude to those he doesn't see eye to eye with softened when he was in his uniform.

I don't always like what he posts - and he's made it clear we can get up his nose at times. But we can tell each other when it happens.

Its just a pity when it gets to be an exchange of insults rather than ideas - but I guess I'm as guilty as anyone of that.

I'm glad Flip has posted another point of view - that's what these places are all about it.

I say let him back in and draw a line under the whole thing.

And don't anyone dare say I'm wrong...  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Flip,

No, not quite but I used to work in a 'similar' industry....in fact, my partner was someone that Koolvin knows.

Many people I worked alongside migrated from the force into my sector and according to them it is or should I say *was* one of the most common questions asked at interview stage when they initially joined the force.

I too think he should still be made welcome..he is entitled to his own view however it may be.

The only reason I think someone should be barred is if they are deliberately making a nuisance of themselves.

Perhaps if this site truly is &quot;Run By The People For The People&quot; we should take a vote on it?

What do you say Koolvin?

Sp!ke

Errrrr - I'm easily confused. But you are saying that was a question people who were once Cops, remember being asked when they joined?!

Koolvin - Inviting Dave back? (or at least not banning him?) or will you take the point of view that &quot; His point of view is not valid&quot;?

It seems that the more mature members in here accept that he should be able to put forward his views, whether YOU agree with them or not?

<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/whatsthat.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':wotthat:'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sarcasm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sara:'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

Guys + Gals,

I can't take anymore - who was wrong? Was Dave out of order? Should Koolvin invite him back? Did Phil kill Lisa? Who is the masked man? - I always thought that the purpose of this forum was for people to natter about, ask for help with, or respond with help to questions about all of our common interest - a love for BMWs!!! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

If you look back at the posts that tend to be made on this forum a lot of them are from people asking for assistance with a problem, to point out something cool that might be of interest to the others, or, at times to vent frustration at something that's pi**ed us off. Whether Dave was right or wrong in his opinion I don't know, and to be honest don't really mind - he was fed up about something and mentioned it on this forum. We all get hacked off at times - I was pi**ed off with my stealer last week cos I'd booked a C Class whilst mine was in for service but ended up with an A Class instead - if I'd mentioned this some people might have agreed, some might have said 'tough - some poor bugger got a Mondeo', but either way the point was that I was annoyed. Healthy debate is good and can be fun at times, but I don't think there's a need for any of us to jump down someone else's throat just because we don't agree - maybe Dave had a bad day (I'd imagine his bad days are probably a lot worse than the ones I classify as bad!&#33<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> - maybe Koolvin had a bad day, but both of you drive Mercs so you can't be all bad <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'> Most of the time everyone is so friendly on this forum that they will spend their own time offering help to others - lets try to keep that tradition going and not lower ourselves down to BMW owner levels!! (before anyone starts, I actually own a Merc and a BM, so I'm poking fun at myself as well!!&#33<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Please lets not let this spoil the air in this club - it's been a nice place to visit at the end of a long day - none of us needs the hassle I'm sure. How about we have a group hug and get back to the normal way of life - bitching about stealers, laughing at muppets in souped up Novas, and finding good uses for dancing bananas - that never hurt anyone!!!  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

Koolvin - I know from all your posts that you seem like a nice bloke - why not bury the hatchet and extend a hand to Dave?

Dave - maybe it's all got out of hand and you could forgive and forget?

Mrs Turner - a lady in a M Class - thats a woman with taste - how you doing?? (Joey from Friends style) <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

Now I really couldnt agree more

Lets all agree to differ at times - but in a civil manner !

Cheers

Wot - no naff bodykit and strip of plastic covering half the windscreen???

Must admit I've always liked the stealth idea - when I've earn't my millions I've always wanted to have a Escort Cosworth engine + drivetrain put in a beat up MK4 1.6L body - might surprise a few people!!

Oh, and I don't get to drive the BMW  - the wife insists that it's her car - I've tried to educate her about the superiority of Mercs, but will she listen?? <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

Heres stealth car no2

1600cc &amp; 268hp - but it will be 300hp by January <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
It will leave a couple of big engined Mercs for dead next year at the pod <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
It has already had a couple of Escort cossies, an Evo6 and a few others. I dont even bother with Rs turbos any more. We should find out next year if the Bro-in-laws Carrera4 is up to the task!

I drive the Rover for fun at the weekends, the wife drives the SL !

Koolvin needs his turbo - we need more stealth in MBCLUB !

<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

Blimey I know I've not spent much time here recently, but it's certainly kicked off in my absence <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh2.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> .

Still good to see it's all seams to have blown over <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>  and calm has decended <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> .

A few point's I noticed reading this thread:

1) Mark you say the SL is like a Pimp mobile and your wife drives it. Does this mean YOU work for her <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> and how much do you have to hand over to her after you've worked all night <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> .

2) I also know what it's like to be hated by the public whilst at work and how trying to explain things to them is like  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wallbash.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bash:'> .

3) I have seen similar things in my career to what Dave Elcome has seen although the ones I get involved with rarely remain in less than 4 bits <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>  Luckily unlike poor Dave I only have to deal with this type of thing 1-2 per year.

Anyway three cheers for one and all lets keep a good forum good, now the bit I've been waiting for:
