Rear brake pads

Hi all, just checked the rear pads on my 2017 C200 AMG Line and they are almost down to the metal, which was a bit of a shock.
I was just wondering what sort of a job it is to replace them, what with the electric hand brake etc.
Would a general garage be able to cope or is it a Mercedes job.
Thanks

Easy job for any garage or competent diy-er. Did my daughter’s GLA in an hour last Sunday. There’s a screen menu option to retract the pads for replacement.

Colin, is the retract piston action on the middle screen menu or the little one behind steering wheel.

It’s a hidden menu, access it by holding down the phone button and pressing the OK button at the same time. On the B Class it’s shows in the instrument cluster. There are guides on YouTube. It retracts the parking brake motors, you’ll still have to push the pistons back.

Thanks again, I think I will do them myself.

First part done, parking brake motors powered back, callipers off and pads out.
Just waiting for new pads for Tuesday pm.
Thanks again for the help. Will post again once all back together.

Did you not get a dashboard warning lamp on for pad thickness ? If it has (should have) pad wear sensors , have they been disconnected by a previous owner ??

No dash light. I had the wheels off for cleaning and noticed pads were getting a bit low.
So decided to replace them. To be fair they had a bit more thickness once I got them off and most people would have got a bit more out of them. Better safe than sorry.

The trouble is that it’s on one pad out of four. When I did my daughter's car one of the pads had lost nearly all of its friction material.

Yes, my point is you can’t rely on wear indicators.
Certainly can't , especially as there are only 2 (out of 8 pads) on most MB cars . The most effective pad sensor I have experienced is on our ancient Zafira , a bent piece of metal on the pad torches the edge of the disc when the pads are low and it makes a noise you simply can't ignore , it cant be electrically bridged out , you could of course cut the metal tang off , but to do that you have to remove the wheel , so you may as well replace the pads :p

Or cut the tang off when you first fit the pads!

Just measured what’s left of brake pads, it’s about 5mill which is a smidge above wear indicator.
So needed changing really.

Well, that went rather trouble free.
Rear pads fitted, electric brakes reset, all good. Glad I decided to do them myself, saved about £200 labour costs at local garage, pads were £30 from local motorist shop via motor factors.
Will do fronts later in the year.
Thanks for the help.
