Rear discs and pads - W213 E63S, 'reasonable' cost for replacement?

My Indie quoted me. £330 for front discs and pads, but said they didn’t need changing and “would not need it for a while.” Besides they have wear indicators on these cars.
Problem is the wear indicators only cover the pads and not the discs, so if the discs wear first you have to rely on other evidence.

So an update to this thread, I had the second brake inspection done and have had it confirmed to me that there is very little wrong with the brakes on my car, front or rear....

The rear discs are virtually new, with the pads about 50% worn, the front discs are more like 50% worn themselves and the pads are new. This corroborates the brake test information sheet I dug out from Mercedes Beaconsfield from December, which shows no faults. Interestingly, the place I took the car to have the tests done, actually pre-ordered a pair of rear discs 'just in case' they needed to fit them (the owner was saying how he nearly had heart failure when he saw the cost :D ), which I thought was quite the risk for them to take.

But it does show that it would have been in their interest to 'just fit them' (if they were that way inclined) - so i'm impressed by their honesty.

The only thing they did confirm was that my front discs are warped a little, as I have vibration through the steering wheel when slowing from high speed (on light braking only). Given i'll almost certainly have the fronts replaced on the next service (November), i'll just live with that.

So all in all, a win in the respect I don't have to chuck a load more money at the car unexpectedly :)

And just like that a customer was lost- to the first establishment.
Yep. It's disappointing and extremely frustrating that I now have to find another independent, unless I want to be treated to the 'delights' of main dealer servicing for the duration of my ownership.

There is another MB specialist in my area that gets favourable reviews, but it may be time to look further afield. I contacted Andy Gayle in Oldbury, who I used to use for my C36 many years ago - although its a bit of a trek for me (circa 100 mile round trip), I was never once given duff info or bad service there.

We'll see I suppose, I don't need to decide anything until the end of the year (assuming no other unexpected items go pop).

You wonder how much of the infamous brake pad/disc up-sell goes on; I guess for those slightly less scrupulous service providers it must be worth a try?

Exactly, how many people are going to question it? Especially those people who are in a rush or know nothing about cars…
