Car
W140 S500
I'm going to look at a S500 on Wednesday. It's immaculate with 60,000 miles, FSH and all the original bits that came with the original sale. The chap is asking £5,000. It seems a bit expensive but not too far out. He says it's mechanically sound and has covered only 10,000 miles in the last 8 years. I've seen a few other V8 W140s for sale but the asking price varies drastically. I am a motorbike man and know their values but with these cars I'm totally ignorant. Is there a price guide anywhere or does anyone know what the ball park values are?

Thanks in advance.

Immaculate, 60k miles, FSH & all paperwork? It doesn't sound overpriced and if it is, it can't be by much surely?

That's pretty much what I thought. I knew it was ball park but this will be my first MB so want to make sure I'm making all the right choices. I was going to go for a mint 280 but after reading a lot of forum chatter I've decided to go for the V8. To say I'm excited is a huge, huge understatement. My first ever V8. I feel like a kid again!

I think at this level pricing in the main is all about condition. There's deffo cheaper one's about...

What year is it?
If it's only been doing 1500 miles a year you really need to pay close attention to condition.
My W140 500 was one of the best cars we've ever owned

It's a '96. I would like to take a specialist along with me but where do you find this kind of service?

Where are you / where is the car? Then at least we can make suggestions.

However, my advice is look round at every one you can, if you have no experience of them the chances are you will buy one without a clue what may not be right.

I agree with Charles.
Postup your approx location.

Unfortunately I can't spend time looking at cars. I'm self employed and have 1 year old twin girls and a house in the middle of total renovation. I've found someone in Kent , where the car is, who is a Merc specialist and will inspect the vehicle and give his independent opinion and valuation. My best mate is also a mechanic who is travelling down with me.

I'm in Derbyshire and the car is in faversham.
