If it matches your initials , or you are a CB radio enthusiast who hangs out on ch 4 , I suppose it is .

How much do shops pay for their stock?

When someone sees it for £175k and puts in a ‘cheeky offer’ for £100k they’ll think they’ve got a bargain! :)

Should whoever bought it be selling it for less? I imagine the ‘turnover of stock’ in registration marks is quite a slow business in general - a speculative investment which could take some time to see a return - in other words, they’ve paid the highest price for it on the open market, the current value is less than £72.5k as that was what the next highest bidder didn’t think it was worth (or could afford)

A lot of money for a piece of paper than might take several years to sell for much of a return - but no legal or moral issues that I can see? :thumb:

I've never been interested in such things .

I recall , in days gone by , I used to take The Sunday Times , and used to peruse the classified ads with my dad ( the only part of the paper that interested him ; I bought it because my English teacher at the time encouraged it , and many of the multiple segments were indeed of interest . My dad did buy a Silver Shadow that he found advertised in The Times ; I was a passenger in it a few times while he was alive , it wasn't used all that often , and , following his passing in 1983 , it sat in our garage for a number of years before we sold it . I only drove it a couple of times , nice as it was , and very well engineered , it wasn't my thing .

Anyway , at one point my dad spotted the registration 1 DTH , which were my initials , and offered to buy it ( my dad was reasonably well off and could have afforded it ) but I declined , saying it was of no interest to me . I suppose it would have now been worth the price of a nice house , but I was in my teens back then and such things were of no interest to me .

I have had a couple of cars with non-dating Irish numbers , only because they came with them , and were passed on still with them .

My sister has a cherished number which reads like our family name , I think she paid a few hundred for it and has had it for years - she likes it so why would I complain , we all spend money on things that give us pleasure , and no reason why we shouldn't .

Re the Sunday Times : I kept reading it on and off ( though I haven't bought ANY newspaper in many years ) but one time I spotted the number SR 1 up for sale at a high price . One of the managers where I worked at the time was a lady called Shirley Robinson , so I felt I had to draw it to her attention . She smiled but said it wasn't for her . I expect it went to a Vauxhall owner .

Found a picture of the Royce , with my sister . One of the reasons my dad bought it was because it carried my sister's initials . She had no interest in the plate , so it helped sell the car on .
