How to sell a car

Hard to say without photos, mileage, history, and length of ticket (MoT) , but would have thought an S211 would easily sell to a nationwide audience on Autotrader.

People are prepared to travel to buy a reliable Family wagon / handyman's "van."

Folks baulk at paying £85 for unlimited national advertising, but Autotrader is the default place to look. And some people even buy.

(Says the bloke who's just sold a 20 year old Mx5 for £5k.)

Had a bit of a setback last year with this, but it's deffo going this year, possibly very soon now! Going to view its possible replacement tomorrow :)

I've always sold privately. Enjoyed the experience. Almost always the first to see has bought. I price fairly. However, last car went with WBAC. I just couldn't argue with the price

I've always hated the experience. It's a car which will go for cheap money, so I'll get the dregs of society asking questions which I've already answered in the advert I'd write. Plus the usual, asking me if I'll swap, what's my best price etc......I'll probably just scrap it to be honest, with the arches bubbling and the scrape on the door, no one will want it really.

I put my 2009 CLS 320CDI, 125k miles on Gumtree. Took loads of photos and a video, it was looked after and went within 24hrs. Priced to sell at £2500.
No fuss, no bother.
List all the faults accurately and state no offers whatsoever.
I'd put it up on here first, someone may want to use as-is or tidy it up. If you can get £300 scrap, ask for £500 and give £200 to charity or mbforums.

Yeah I'll probably put it up here first in that case. It'll do someone a good turn as mechanically it's a great car, still pulls well and puts the power down nicely. It shall be as soon as I can, just need to give it a good wash. We've bought the new car now, so decision made!

Without reading the whole thread, there's only a handful of channels where you can sell a car

1) online
2) put a for sale sign on a car
3) Sell it to a dealer
4) Auction
5) Enthusiast clubs and forums

Depending on what kind of car you own (modern, classic, exotic etc.) determines the best channel. If it's a late model every day car, putting it on autotrader, gumtree or fb will get you inquiries. You need to cast a bigger net for classics / collectable cars because they're niche and fewer people are looking at them. Auctions are dealer trade in is hassle free and online forums and enthusiast clubs tend to be a waste of time because it's full of experts that nit pick and they already own one.

You can probably sell something like a 10 year old fiesta for $2000 by just putting a for sale ad on the car and leaving it on your drive. Someone who recognizes the car will probably buy it for their kid.
