Replace broken door release cable 2005 ml270. It can't be that hard can it?

Need advice on replacing door release cable front driver's door 2005 ml270 CDI. Mines snapped and local merc dealer will only sell me the full actuator with the cable for £187. Have seen replacement cables online for about £10 - 20. Had door card off and access looks a little tight. My question is can the cable be fitted without removing the actuator or have I got to remove it and the air bag and the metal guide that is rivited to the door. Any advice gratefully received.
