Replacement of Audio 10

I am contemplating the upgrade of the stereo system in my car. Its a 1999 S320 W220 model. It currently has Audio 10 (i believe its from Becker). The system is integrated into the dash board, and controls are also linked to the steering wheel. However, it only comes with cassette but does not have CD changer. I would like to retain the dash board integrated look of the stereo as well as retaining the control of the system on the steering wheel. On top of that I also would like to have a remote control unit from the back seat.

In the car manual, I came across Audio 30 which has remote control. Can anyone advise me where I can find this unit to replace my existing unit, and what is the proper CD changer that I can use.

The Audio 10 and Audio 30 are made by Becker, for Mercedes. As such, they are both available from any Merc dealer (or eBay...)
The Audio 10 comes in 2 models -- one has the cassette, the other has a CD (audio 10 cd). The Audio 10 CD can also control a cd charger through an optical link. Again, your Merc dealer will happily sell you the matching Merc labelled model.
I'm not sure about the Audio 30, but I think there is just the one model, with CD.
I think -- but I'm not 100% sure -- that you can use other makes of cd charger (eg, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood...) with an appropriate cable adaptor.

Why not think about getting a comand 2.5 from ebay.

Thats the one that fits the W220 as its 2.5 din wide.

They are normally quite cheap. Im sure some comand people on here will finish off what im trying to say :)

Ohh , and comand will also help the resale of your car. as in make it saleable when you come to that point. Trade doesnt like an S class without navigation in it.

if you want to go the comand 2.5 route and are near Manchester I know of a local car Audio place that has a 2.5 comand, wiring loom and replacement walnut facia panel looking for a home. THey bought it in but the customer decided not to buy the S class that it was to go in. I think they will do a supply only or preferably for them, a supply & fit. they also do MB TV tuners .
