Replacement Windscreen Woes

Hi,

I've just had the windcreen replaced on my W211 Avant G and I'm completely convinced it's the wrong shade of blue. If I look through the side windows the world is far bluer than the similar view from the windscreen.

RAC, who fitted it, say it's the right colour but the front screen is a lighter shade for legal reasons. I have to admit I didn't noticed the level of tint before it was changed but it just seems so wrong now. Should it be the same? They're the original windows all round otherwise.

I'm having my breaks changed at the MB dealer tomorrow so I'll be checking out other screens for comparison.

Is this a case of non OEM parts being used by RAC and should I demand a proper screen? I've just seen a thread re Autoglass and their use of non OEM and the alarm bells rang. I've not been able to get the car back to RAC yet and I wanted to be certain before escalating.

Besides this, the windscreen fitting and service from RAC were superb. Just the wrong colour!

Look at the screen. It should have MB stamped on the corner. If it doesnt. Its not an MB original screen. Id get them to change it for an OEM one.

I had the screen done on my BMW 3 series by RAC . I demanded an oem screen. Eventually got one.

Beware , they are really ackward getting an OEM one for you , but if you push and then go down the warranty being invalidated with a NON OEM part being fitted etc. Should be enough to get them to do it.

Thanks Fuzzer,

I've just been scanning other posts on RAC Windscreens and it's a trail of horror stories. I wish I'd specificed an OEM but it never occurred to me. I'll go out and check in the car park later for that MB logo.

It's a shame really as the screen has been fitted really well and it'll have to be ripped out again. Maybe it was a better job because it's a bonded screen/fitting and took 3 hours to complete rather than a quickie at the roadside.

Cheers.

Andy
